Hook, line and sinker. Niko demonstrates that she still lacks the ability to actually -use- her brain to think about things and instead just blindly trusts the ghosts of the ancestors of the people she just usurped.
Because ghosts are always 100% trustworthy, even when they have every reason to dislike you.
I… I didn’t think we’d find anybody this stupid. And I didn’t think she’d choose one of the people here who hates her most. Unless she intends to commit murder now? She probably does.
She doesn’t need to, she’s sure that the curse will take care of her.
Yep, the curse will take care of her…She’ll never be able to eat another carrot.

I figure, the ghosts will fill Flannet in, she will eat carrots and get very sick (but nothing permanent) which will convince Niko that the curse is starting to work. Let us just hope that the horrible death that the curse has lined up for Niko doesn’t take very long. I can’t wait to see what is in store for her. *evil grin*
maybe the mistresses will turn on her, they seem allot less trusting of the whole ordeal than Niko 😛

SO… when will the spooks speak to the new "Baroness" and fill her in, I wonder?
I love how Niko totally ignored all possible warning signs and blindly followed through.
The funny thing is, I discovered this webcomic only a week or two ago and read the last couple of pages first (without returning to the beginning of this arc), while binge reading the archive at the same time, and I was actually beginning to like Niko (and thought that she might be one of those evil characters with a twist much like those that lived in the Black Mountain).
Let’s see how quickly and how cleanly she gets killed.

No, you are wrong. The Rannites won the fights, Ranna herself is still the strongest godess around, so however we look at it, they rule these lands now. That makes Agaera the current queen, and she named Niko as the Duchess. Once Runt regained the crown, Lucas likely regain his title as well, but until that…

The former Barons really hit two birds with one stone now. Niko dies horribly, and now that Flannet is the Baronnes, once Lucas regained his title, he should be free from the curse, which would make sure Cadugan is not in danger of it anymore. 😀 Though I wouldn’t be surprised if there would be a twist somewhere, that saves Niko… Kind of even hoping for it, because I like her as a villain… And yet, as I read the last strips, I must have looked like the ghosts on the previous page… 🙂
With all the strange and wishful thinking impressions of the curse posted on these comment pages lately, I’ve kept trying to assume it’s actually meant to be interpreted precisely by its literal wording.
"your spouse and that of every baron who takes your title to the end of time will be taken from you in a horrible grisly death!"
But if being appointed baron*ess* counts, but duke or duchess apparently doesn’t, then I don’t know if that wording is relevant at all.
I think it’s consistent. A baroness is just a female baron, so a baroness is as much a baron as a baron is.
Just shows you can even get werewolves to chase a carrot – given the right stick…

So as her oldest living child, (presumably) that makes Cadugan heir to the Barony?
If that is the case, she would probably name her younger son as her heir. Otherwise, when she died, Cadugan might become Baron, which would bring the curse down on his spouse, Duke Lucas.
