Could i have some DnD wisdom bestowed on me please? I am starting to gather material for our new campaign, and it is set in the Unapproachable East -Rashemen, Thay, Aglarond etc. Now i want to also take the players to places that have a Viking and Celtic flavor, but i have not managed to find which are these places in the Forgotten Realms setting. I can always improvise of course, but if there are places in the supplements that have that kind of culture described i would love to know about them. Somewhere in the NorthWest Isles perhaps?
Thanks in advance :-) .

Ugh... bad timing. We're in Toronto visiting family and all our D&D books are back home. I do know, however, that there's a "Vikings" campaign book supplement, though it isn't part of the Forgotten Realms universe, it's all based on historical research with modifications. When we played Al Qadim, at least two of our players were from 'the north', Viking-esque norsemen from another supplement, I believe.
Keep in mind, of course, that all my info is 2nd Ed Advanced D&D. None of the D20 crap information.

Oh, thank you from answering from your holidays! Well we are still playing our current campaign, i am just researching the next, as the players are close to completing their goals and we will start the next one right away. It will be weeks before we start approaching the unapproachable east, so, if there is something you could think of i will be grateful. Second edition is fine -i am going for the atmosphere, not the mechanics, and i admit that the 2nd had that part better. Even when we played Ravenloft with third edition rules, i still used the supplements of the second.
By the way, i am curious to see how the Vikings did in Al Qadim...perhaps in the gaming stories thread when you are back? The Thirteenth warrior in reverse!

Forgotten Realms <3

I don't have my book-of-love here at the time (friend has it), but after a quick glance to Forgotten Realms wiki, I can say my first thoughts were mostly correct. Oh sweet, I found the scanned version on my comp...

There isn't exactly a viking inspired place, but the Cold Lands are your best bet (FRCS page 106). I'd recommend Vaasa, Damara and northern Narfell. You could also try Icewind Dale, but there's not a whole lot of info there (beyond the Icewind Dale books ofc). There's also some vikingesque people in Moonshae Isles (FRCS page 148) called the Northlanders, but that takes you kinda away from everything else (unless your party can quicktravel, or you like to set the whole campaign there). The Northlanders are descendants from Ruathym raiders, so that would be closest to the classic vikings (my guess, also no info on the island, so you can shape everything yourself).

If you can't get a hold of the FR Campaign Setting, and feel like you need more info, pm me for some details.

And what on earth are NorthWest Isles?

Thanks Slither Slither! The Ruathym were the only clue i had myself as they were presented in the Liriel Baenre novels from Elaine Cunningham. Our campaigns usually span from level one to twenty plus, so you can get anywhere eventually (plus you can twist the geography as well). I will definitely use your suggestions on the Cold Lands :-) .
