It is my sad duty to report to you that the other father of our beloved RPG hobby, Dave Arneson, has passed away. Hug your books as they need comforting now that both of their fathers are gone.

Quote:
Shortly after 11pm on Tuesday, April 7th, Dave Arneson passed away. He was comfortable and with family at the time and his passing was peaceful.

The Arneson family would like to thank everyone for their support over the last few days, and for the support the entire community has shown Dave over the years.

We are in the process of making final arrangements and will provide additional details as we work them out. We will continue to receive cards and letters in Dave's honor. We are planning to hold a public visitation so that anyone wishing to say their goodbye in person has the opportunity to do so.

Cards and letters can continue to be sent:
Dave Arneson
1043 Grand Avenue
Box #257
St. Paul, MN
55105

Godspeed Dave. Say hi to Gary for all of us and save us a spot at the gaming table. You will be sadly missed.

From the younger Blackmoorian Lord Lamorek Steelguard to The Master, Uther Once and Always!

As a friend of mine (and local GM) put it, we now have "Gods of Gaming" in the heavens to pray to for decent rolls.

To add a touch of black humor, a friend suggested that the appearance of the fourth edition is what did them both in.

Heh, I imagine both Gary and Dave would have expected us to chuckle cause I think they both understood that you need to see the humour in life even when the situation is bad. I know that Dave was completely against moving Blackmoor into 4e and he left Zeitgeist Games for more than just health reasons.

::sighs::

In a perfect world someone would OGL retro-clone Blackmoor as has been done with Rob Kuntz's version of the various levels/set pieces he wrote for Greyhawk back in the day (under his Lake Geneva Castle & Campaign line).
