Each month they are doing a special on a regeneration, and talking about what that Doctor meant to the audience and what it means to the show now, and show an episode of that Doctor.

So far they've done a good job picking episodes that reflect the current story telling, showing how the seeds were already there for the stories of today, right in the very different show it started out to be.

In the Aztecs, we see the Doctor and his companions arguing about what they could and couldn't do to change history, and the pain of the companions at seeing deaths they could not prevent - and how they'd try anyway.

We also see the Doctor fall in love - telling himself it didn't matter, it was just a flirting, fleeting love, impossible to be more in his life, and then being unable to abandon the ring she gave him to symbolize their love.

Tomb of the Cybermen - well, possibly it was picked because it was the best reasonable length story survived <g>, but it also has the Doctor dealing with familiar enemies, dealing with multiple companions and their different needs, and in a rare moment of reflection, sharing his grief for his family with his grieving companion. It's the first time since Susan was gone that he mentioned having family, and we see that loss in the current Doctors, reflected in much the same way.

The next choices should be interesting.

The Doctor is the title character in the long-running BBC science fiction television programme Doctor Who. The character has also been featured in one made-for-television film, and a vast range of spin-off novels, audio dramas and comic strips.
