Brilliant, just brilliant. Matt Smith is absolutely fantastic, as good (if not better *gasp*) than Tennant, as is Amy Pond and the new TARDIS, though the theme is perhaps a little quiet. Full of energy and umph, real promise for the rest of the series. And a nice montage of old and new clips to remind us this is still the Doctor Who we know and love.

10/10

An excellent start to the series. The old regime was looking tired and this was fresh combining reminders of Moffat's ability to make the ordinary scary with some genuine humour.

I saw this at a science fiction convention. Some people said they didn't spot how Amy earned her living straight away. I also thought why she needs to be back the next day is rather obvious. I hope there will also be some genuine surprises.

We were told that there would be some new monsters and fewer old ones being seen again but the end of episode taster suggests that there will be a lot of familiar ones turning up.

I loved it. It was a bit cheesy in the begining, but the rest made up for it.

And as I'm a sucker for oldWho-referances, i loved the old Doctor flashbacks.

I think the prophecy refers to the Eternals, or possibly the Time Lords again. Does anybody remember the exact wording?

The in-jokes to other Moffat episodes were cool.

I had a lot of fun watching the ep, and really enjoyed the new Doctor. Amy Pond was a very impressive character and stands well up to any Doctor she might travel along side.

I agree they certainly didn't need to show us the wardrobe to explain why she needed to be back the next day - her mannerism gave it away.

The only thing, fresh off the viewing, that I am not quite sold on is ... well, the bow tie hasn't won me over yet.

I'm not 100% sold on it yet, but I feel it has great potential. :) I like Amy, and I think Eleven will be good - I'm just still getting used to him, like new slippers. ;)

I totally called the why-she's-got-to-be-back bit, too, but I really liked all the things that were possible/obvious hooks to later in the series. Did anyone else notice (as my hubby did - he pointed it out to me *pauses for a proud moment, as one who introduced said hubby to Who*) the interesting bit about the oscilloscope in the background inside the TARDIS, as they were bantering? Definite foreshadowing...

A good episode. I'm not disappointed at all, but not quite ready to jump on the bandwagon yet. I imagine I'll be there in another episode or two. :D

I was **totally** impressed. I think Matt Smith is doing great so far. Thought he acted a bit like DT at the start, but it makes sense, all things considering. And he seemed to have a smooth regeneration this time.

All-in-all, I'm hooked.

I agree with mrfranklin. (IMO) it wasn't perfect, but then it was just character introductions all round. I'll wait a few more stories to make my mind up.
I liked Smith's performance more than I'd thought. I imagined that he'd be putting on the Ooh! This is so exciting and amazing! voice from End of Time all the way through the story, and was glad that he didn't.
A couple of little niggles, though. I wasn't too thrilled with the spitting out of food over the kitchen. That was just a bit gross (not Slitheen gas exchange gross, but a bit unpalatable, pun intended  ). The other was the bit about a seven-year-old inviting a complete stranger into her house in the wee hours of the morning for something to eat. Not setting a good example, Auntie Beeb!
I also hope the Rose-Doctor-Mickey love triangle won't morph into the Amy-Doctor-Rory love triangle :shifty:
Apart from that, fair episode, will come back for more. Thank you Mr Moffatt.
The theme tune reminded me a little of the Big Finish 8th Doctor Theme from their early 'Charley Pollard) adventures.

Given the fact that the trailer gave snippets of River Song, I for one suspect the Doctor's romantic tendencies will be tied up there, rather than with Amy. At least... I hope. (That is, if he has to display romantic tendencies, better with a known individual than with the new Companion.)

Finally had a chance to see it. Excuse me while I ramble on a bit.
1. I wasn't sure before, but I am now officially sold on Matt Smith as the Doctor.
2. "Brand new me, nothing works yet." For example, he's forgotten the control from Time-Flight that stabilizes the TARDIS interior while the exterior is turned on its side. (Then again, the TARDIS isn't in the best of shape either.)
3. Stephen, please don't make "Geronimo" the Doctor's new catch phrase. He's already got a catch phrase -- "I'm the Doctor."
4. I hope they don't do that whole "What am I'm remembering?" thing with the camera zooming around on a regular basis.
5. I'll bet that stuff about cracks in the Universe is going to be a recurring theme this season. The oscillator on the console would seem to support that hypothesis.
6. I always get a kick out of seeing Classic Who references in the new series. 6.5. Having Eleven walk through the hologram of his predecessors was a neat touch.
7. He can drive away hostile aliens simply by introducing himself. Yeah, that would make it a lot easier.
8. I don't like the new console room yet. But then, that's what I said about the last one.
9. I do like the running gag about the swimming pool. So far. Just don't wear it out.
10. The console looks like the TARDIS swallowed a junkyard and had a bad case of food poisoning.
11. At least, with her wedding coming up, this is one companion who (probably) isn't going to go all moony-eyed over the Doctor. (Although when I saw that wedding dress, after all of her Doctor artwork, I was afraid for a moment that Amy had gone all stalker-obsessive over him.)

I'm with you 100% here. However, I'm afraid we've already lost on this one. He's used it twice already, and I heard him use it again in the trailer that aired at the end of the episode, too. :bah: If you have to have a regeneration-specific catch phrase, I have to say allons-y had a lot more class...

i can't edit either. I wanted to say that the prophecy was:

"The Universe is cracked. The Pandoric will open. Silence will fall"

What does everybody think of that? Pandora's Box? Extratemporal beings?

By the way, we were never told what was ACTUALLY bringing Donna + Doctor together, maybe Moffat'll use that?

We were told what was bringing Donna and the Doctor together (Caan), but we were never told what was bringing Wilf and the Doctor together (presumably the Woman in White).

BTW, its the Pandorica.

Also, if the "working" title for episode 12 is "Pandorica Opens", wouldn't the "working" title for episode 13 be "Silence Falls"?

Okay - I'm away from the computer for a bit and what do I find? Spoilers!

The topic title is the first ep of the new Doctor. If you've got something else to discuss, put in a new topic marked Spoilers - and no spoilers in your titles either.

At this point I'm even going to say spoiler mark the trailer comments as a lot of fans turn off the ep before the spoilers hit. *Or possibly their psychic powers stop there <g>*

There's a whole thread about the rules for spoilers and you've got spoiler marks you can put around anything you just have to post, so no excuses! :naughty:
Anything you've got to say about the first ep is welcome - esp as it's just aired in large parts of the world this weekend <g>
