Hopefully, some of you have managed to check out Paul "Oatking" Jackson's anime-styled Doctor Who clip at http://www.toplessrobot.com/. While I'm not a big fan of anime (and not a detractor of the form, either), I like this approach to the Doctor's adventures. The video (single-handedly done by Jackson) is a collection of beautifully done scenes with audio taken from various Doctor Who episodes, notably those involving Jon Pertwee, as his Doctor was the incarnation used here. Once you get over the initial shock of the Doctor in Tokyo, there's loads of fun stuff on view.

Such as:

*The Doctor going all Jackie Chan on some muggers.
*Cybermen wailing on a trio of stupid gangsters.
*Daleks in the subway.
*A Cybermen/Dalek throwdown on the streets of Tokyo.
*The Master and the Doctor swordfighting atop Tokyo Tower.

But hey, check it out for yourself.

Then let me know what you think :sunny: .

WOW!

Amazing! I   it. Excellent Daleks and Cybermen, although my mates wife wouldn't be impressed with that Smart Car being trashed. And D3 landing in (sounds like) Salford and getting mugged by chavs! LMAO!

More!

(I also want one of those Chewie t-shirts from that web site!)

Personally I'm not a huge fan of the style. But it's better than that "Infinite Quest" FLASH crap.

Yeah, I'm not normally a big fan of anime either. I did like the clip's versions of the Cybermen and Daleks, and the creative use of Classic Who sound clips.
Not sure about that dead Cyberman ... the optical implant under the faceplate seemed a little too Borg-like.

I hope the guy's able to finish that short. It would be the first decent animated Doctor Who that I've seen.

I personally enjoyed this animation. I also saw the style used in the infinite quest and enjoyed that as well. As long as both remain true to the series I will enjoy watching. Personally I would enjoy seeing the lost doctor who episodes being restored in an animated form. They did it for the lost 2 episodes of The Invasion and they could do it with the rest. My opinion is they should remain in black and white as color episodes were not seen until Pertwee.

I am not an anime fan but one has to admire the talent, skill and immense amount of hard work put into this amazing, completely bonkers animation. As a Doctor Who animator myself I'm amazed what some people come up with - the amount of work is astonishing here.

(For my own animations of Doctor Who lost episodes, check out http://youtube.com/ocpmovie )

I knew what he was doing before all you guys because he posted his stuff on deviantart before putting it all together to make an animation.

This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. It's fan made and it must have taken this guy ages to make.

That is certainly impressive. :) Seems there was something similar posted in another thread a few months ago...

If you haven't seen it yet, well it's too late. Otaking has just announced that he's been hired to do some work for the BBC. And had to remove all his BBC related material off the net.

If this means we are getting some kick-ass and official Doctor Who animation from him, I'd say that's worth the loss.

That's awesome and good for him. But you know, I now want to see an Anime Doctor Who series.

Oh, crud... I just now heard of this. Does anyone have his removed art and videos saved somewhere? I thought I'd done that with yhis youtube stuff, but a search on my computer doesn't show anything.

I loved those clips and was really looking forward to seeing something complete, but if he's doing an officially sanctioned Doctor Who animation now then we have a real treat to look forward to.

Hope it's something classic who, but I doubt it -- they push the new stuff hard and give short shrift to the old series. Unless we're talking a multi-Doc story...

Of course there's the matter of animating lost episodes, but I get the sense the BBC would rather throw a project that big at a studio rather than a lone animator. It would be interesting to see what he would do with one of the more action-oriented lost or partially mising stories though.
