I finally got to see this a few months ago but was not impressed.

The death scene in the hospital - yuck.

The reawakening "Who am I?" didn't work for me.

Wasn't really impressed with the Master in this one. No class. (I miss Roger Delgado so much).

The Doctor working WITH the Daleks, bringing the Master's remains from Skaro - that made no sense to me at all.

I don't know. It just left me cold.

I DID like Rich's take on the tv movie doctor in the 11 Doctors, however.

It had it's flaws - but I liked Eric's Master up until he changed into the time lord outfit and went full on kid-in-costume over the top villain. Till then he was a different Master, just like we get a different Doctor.

I was okay with the regeneration scene - each regeneration was always different till they had 10 go all sparkles (twice), imitating the 9th-10th one, something they never did in the old series.

Other than the Master at the end, and a few sillier things, I didn't think it had that many more flaws than your typical ep. (Daleks and Doctor working together, etc, tho I understand the book corrected that.) The show never did take things too seriously.

It was no worse than the rest of the series, really. How about the death scene in "Time and the Rani" where the 6th Doctor (clearly Sylvester McCoy in a clown wig) just regenerates arbitrarily? At least he had dramatic closure unlike Jon Pertwee who stumbled out of the TARDIS and alakazam-POOF became Tom Baker.

And you mean "The 10 Doctors", right? ;)

The ONLY problem I had with the TV movie was the "half-human" thing. It's never really been explained to my satisfaction. I'd just as well mark it non-canon and move on.

The Daleks and the Time Lord thing was explained well in the non-canon media (novels) and makes sense, in retrospect. The Daleks and the Timelords were working on an uneasy peace that eventually broke down and turned into the Time War. I doubt that the Daleks were adhering to any treaty agreement anyway.

Overall, good. Definitely watchable, especially as time goes by.

Another possibility to explain the Daleks, they were the Humanized variety the Second Doctor help create in Evil of the Daleks. Maybe they had finally retaken Skaro at that point, captured the Master, and had him executed.

The Daleks are never named in the movie. It could have been a pre-Dalek justice machine delivering sentence on Skaro. If you need to dig up an explanation.

Or you could just say they screwed around with the writing to drop names and the novel is the actual event. Where it was the Master asking the Doctor to be taken to Gallifrey and the Doctor had to go and collect his remains secretly.

Yes, I forgot about the whole half-human thing. I think that offended me the most.

Yes, 10 Doctors. Sorry.

I guess I was assuming it was Daleks at the beginning. The "Exterminate" sounded Dalek to me, as did the laser noise (if I remember correctly).

True, but their style of talking was loosely based on Davros, their creator. Perhaps the artificial voices of the execution machine was what inspired him to go for that gravely voice instead of giving up smoking like his mother told him.

*ahem*

Just saying, it's easily justifiable to long time whovians.

The half human bit didn't make a lot of sense, and I always wished they addressed that more clearly in the show, but I think they are taking the time honored path of Doctor Who when faced with a fact from one ep doesnt fit with the rest, and just react to fans who point that out by whistling loudly and then claiming they saw something fascinating just in the other direction, and then forgot what you were talking about, but was sure it was something to do with the latest companion's wardrobe.

Pity, I would have loved a bit, since they are apparently going with no human in the Doctor, with Simms and Tennant confrontation scenes including a line at some point with Simms saying something like "Is this like the time you tried to convince me you were half human?"

Today's release day! Mine has shipped...

I intend to post a review on my blog once I've had a chance to see all the DVD extras. It'll be fun to see it with some extra context! :)
