Ive just finished rewatching the Confidential were MS was introduced, and you know what?

I'm really excited about what he can bring.

I can see him as a mix of 7, 2 and 4. Cant be a bad thing!

A short clip of filming on a beach shown by the BBC reveals that they've changed the TARDIS exterior slightly, meaning we can probably guarantee a new interior.

I saw that clip. I must admit I noticed the landscape rather than the TARDIS, though. I'll have to go back and look at that again. Thanks for pointing that out! :)

mrfranklin, I think it's less gullibility on your part and more skepticism on mine. I hold a suspicion that the Beeb was not happy that Tennant left. They were really raking in the dough with David. They offered him a huge deal, which he turned down. I'm sure they'd like the next one to stay longer if he's a hit.

As for the Tardis' new look, well, it's changed a lot over the years. Aside from the windows, the new one looks much closer to a real police box. The St. Christopher emblem is a nice touch, since it hasn't been seen since Hartnell's time, and real police boxes had them.

Having said that, I've done some research on the web and I'm quite surprised how many variations there are to them. I don't think I've seen a picture of a real one yet that quite looks like the Tardis does.

As you mentioned, the boxes had many regional variations. There are a few currently still about in Glasgow, Scotland http://www.chem.gla.ac.uk/~gbarr/tardis/ and one in Earl's Court, London which is pretty much identical http://www.qype.co.uk/place/365960-Poli ... tos/569840. If you are interested, there is also a documentary (voiced by Colin Baker), originally part of a season of DW repeats, which goes through the history of the Police -Public Call- Box http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljcy83Fa7HY . Interesting stuff!

I'm quite surprised (like who isn't?) about the new cossie... at least he looks smart. As Six has no doubt proven, no costume is ever going to please everyone. Maybe he's going to be a little bit like a young Patrick Troughton...

What I find amusing about the changing police box design is this:
The TARDIS' chameleon circuit is not functioning, we are told, thus locking the ship into the form of a police box. AND YET the design of that police box HAS changed -- often. In fact, if they ever found a way to do a "Ten or most of the ten Doctors" story on television, the police boxes lined up would not look like each other!
Maybe the TARDIS is only faking having a nonfunctional chameleon circuit. It just thinks a police box blends in everywhere. (And thanks to the Doctor, it does.)

While perusing my usual routine I happened to come across a few blogs and even an official article featuring the 11th Doctor plus quite a few spoiler shots.

Official Release:

Spoilery Ahoy:

What I am excited about is that the first story in the chapter of the 11th Doctor is gonna have River Song.

Be warned.

Thanks for the link, Matelot. Interesting documentary.

So I guess there are enough variations on a police box that you could argue that the Tardis DOES look like one.

To my knowledge, a real police box has never appeared in the series. When Ian and Barbara made it back to 1960's England, they see a police box, although I don't know if it's a real one or the series prop. (As I recall, the windows were open on the one they saw, so it MAY have been a real box.)

There was SUPPOSED to be a real police box in the first episode of Logopolis. The production team had found one in the north and were going to feature it, but the day before filming, it was retired and hauled off, so they ended up using the series prop instead.

Yup, first shots are up.. and I've made a new 11th Doctor chibi avatar for here as well. Sent a message to our Dungeon Mostress, and it should be up shortly (you can see it though with my post). ;)

Nice! But, umm... isn't his hair much darker?

Hair looks fine too me, and the outfit is spot on.... just the cheeks make him look a little ill imo.

Hmmm, wasn't going for ill, was going for thin. :D

Wasn't totally convinced on the hair colour, but I'd decided we'll see shots of him in sunlight and dark rooms where his hair colour is going to vary depending on lighting anyways. And I wanted to get a bit of highlighting in. ;)

But thanks, I appreciate the comments on it.. wanted to try and capture the new look as best as I could.

I've got a larger shot of it up on Picassa, those that haven't seen the larger gallery and images may enjoy what's up there. ;)

The highlighting I love - it looks awesome. :D Guess all the shots I've seen of him so far have had me thinking of him as dark brunette rather than light. *shrug* I suppose we'll all see more in a few months. (Only 9 more months till April (my own projection for the start of Series 5)! :cheerleader:)

I like it, I can't wait to see him in action. Now I'd like to see how Rich depicts the new Doctor sometime!
As for the TARDIS, I'm not sure that's a permanent change so much as a one-time thing to reference the earliest episodes. A sort of homage with a quirky chameleon circuit or false TARDIS or something.
