Yuck.. Halflings need to stay the size they are. It's the main reason they're so lovable.

I think that's one of the reasons that they are making them taller in D&D4e.

Yet another reason I don't want to convert to 4e. Halflings are friggin' supposed to be short, that's part of the point!

I don't really play D&D, but, maybe.. Is there a way to leave out halflings being taller? Just sorta skip it outta the rules?

Oh yeah! Their size is really cosmetic. Whether they're 4' or 3' all the same rules can apply.

In Basic D&D, 1st and 2nd ed. AD&D they're generally portrayed as Hobbits. But since there's a copyright issue with Tolkien estates, they usually don't describe the feet. I've seen drawings where they've got small, normal feet with shoes on as well. Why they were allowed to use Halfling and not Hobbit, though, I've no idea.

Incidently, AD&D Halflings were generally about a foot shorter than Tolkien's Hobbits.

Tolkein AD&D
Stoors 3'6" Stouts 2'6"
Fallowhides 4'6" Tallfellows 3'6"
Harfoots 4'0" Hairfoots 3'0"

More or less.

Of course. Despite what some players think, a Dungeon Master can run his campaign/world/relm however he wants. In some cases, some rules are more like guidelines.

Something else I found interesting: (about Clover) "Young, strong-willed, clever and resourceful, she's manipulated herself into the throne of Drostardy."

By "interesting" do you mean "at odds with what we were shown of her internal musings on the subject"?

Save her last panel for now of course.

You mean the "Excellent" with the evil grin? I can't buy it. Was the graphic image of her heart breaking also part of the manipulation? Was it also manipulation that she decided to approve a likeable queen candidate because she wanted him to be happy, and only intervened when she found out the woman was evil? What purpose would there be for her to mope and agonise about her feelings alone when no one is around to see her, if they weren't real? Did she somehow manipulate the king into sending an army in to rescue her, which started the whole arc? If so, then I can't trust anything we're shown as being true.

I think the manipulation began *after* King Eric decided he wanted to marry her. Perhaps it was really Clover's idea to spread the word among the halfling population and force Sir Tainley to give the go-ahead on the wedding. Not much "manipulation" needed, really.

My problem is that's not what we were shown. It was a servant who happened to be eavesdropping who started spreading the word, not a hint from Clover. No one is that much of a chessmaster. Not even Xanatos.

That's indeed what I meant. The evil grin didn't really fit in with her thoughts during the whole period with the king. Until we get some update (or a better suggestion) I'm gonna go with the wedding ring of Lewie -theory.
