A moment of silence. Once the explosions stop.

Bravo, Taidor. Bravo.

We held a little Twitter wake for Taidor today, T-Chall and I. I thought I might share my toast to the departed here.

Hail Taidor, as irresistible as he was brave!
Hail Taidor, who hooved Death itself in the crotch before he fell fighting!
Hail Taidor, seducer of archmages, scoundrel of legend, caprine coxman extraordinaire!
Hail Taidor! May every dryad in Arvandor compete for thy affections for eternity.

Gone, perhaps, but never to be forgotten.

Very touching, Rancourt. Thank you.

Good Bye, Taidor, and may Arvandor prove a worthy destination.

And hopefully one without a window back to the mortal world...

Because in the end, it wasn't Taidor's bravery that saved Lucas, Eva and the others. It was the timely appearance of Gummer Groundpounder. It's unlikely that without him to help them fend off the Ceratosauri that Glon and the others would have reached the Saurian village in time to rescue them. And it was Gummer that nuked the ceremony, and allowed them to get away - remember that Meegs is pretty much all the magic the group has at their disposal.

Assuming that Taidor meant to do more than just substitute himself for Eva in the moment, I think he would have been disappointed in how things came out, if he could see them.

I think that Taidor only wanted to save Eva at that point. He could not stand back while she got eaten (or any of his friends got eaten). I doubt his concern was his glory or that he cared what exactly would save his friends as long as they got out. So if he could look back, he would see his friends alive and i guess that this is all he wanted to see.

Though I wonder if Taidor, while he would appreciate that Lucas and the group were rushing to rescue him, would have also been upset that they didn't get the hell out of there while they had the chance.

Remember, it was Taidor who finally convinced Lucas to leave the entrance to the gi-ant cave because that would lure the dinosaur away, giving Cadugan a chance to survive. Taidor knew that he could just as easily have gotten eaten then, but he was willing to make that sacrifice if the other folks would survive.

In this case with the saurians, I think Taidor was doing the same thing, and in this case he did pay the price for it. Ultimately, yes, it was Gummer who did save the rest of the group. I also have to say I'm glad Lucas and the group did go back to try and rescue Taidor, even though it was hopeless at that point.

I guess it really depends on how you look at it. Being somewhat more pragmatic than romantic, I'm not particularly impressed with the way the gang has handled things.

Although I guess that Taidor is more the romantic than I am, so perhaps he'd be sanguine about the way things went down.

I think Taidor was just plain horny, in more ways than one.

A pity that that is really the only aspect of his personality we got to see before the end. That and a good sense of humor. I was hoping he'd get his own little story sooner or later so we'd actually get a firm grip on who he was. Hell, I can't even remember him doing anything notebly druidic until the very strip he died in, kind of seemed like Cadugan was more in touch with nature than him.

On the contrary, i think that Cadugan is much less in touch with nature than Taidor was. Taidor was nature: he ate, rested and fornicated. Cadugan on the other hand is sullen and resentful which may be cute in a cartoon but is not exactly something you get to see a lot in animals, streams or trees (at least where i am from :-) ).
I think that it was Taidor's death that gave him this extra dimension: he had enough loyalty to overcome the survival instict, which must have been stronger in him than the others. So again, adieu to him.

And I think he was a bit too calm and confident before sacrifying himself.
Not a drop of affect or hesitation (let alone pathos) -- no drama, no melodrama.
It's unnaturally psychologically.
You don't think, I hope, one can be so indifferent facing death, and so awful too?
Especially one who is so buoyant and voluptious -- as we all saw.

He knew very well what he was doing.
Perhaps he was like Pan, he became Nature.
Or perhaps it wasn't first time for him?

And why Cadugan shows no concern having learnt his brother is dead? He's so peaceful...
