I love this.

Watch out, or she'll beat you with a big, wooden spoon.

She probably will, too. And we're going to be in arm's reach over Christmas...

Say "Hi" for me, if you run into her.

Man alive, BK, Freya is the *spit* of the real thing. Hats off. I can't wait to see how this plays out.

There'll be nothing plot-wise that you'll miss; I've read the next few strips and I can promise that much.:) It's just that 'Freya Manslayer' is based on a good friend of ours/east coast legend of a lady, and so folks who know the real Freya may get a kick out of how BK draws her.

Ah thank you for the information. It is anyway quite funny with her. :) Only sad thing is that inside jokes are often the best ones. :)

Mistress Manslayer reminds me very much Nanny Ogg from Lancre (from Discworld), my favorite character.

And her accurate, neat arrow, providing in a flash an asexual man-effigy target with something that can be read as a phallic symbol, strong and firm, and in the very right place too... It can be seen as an essential act, hidden behind the outward menacing appearance.

And it's precisely what she is doing with li'l lost Harald.
IMHO

I just found myself thinking about this very thing, just having a feelingthat Freya Manslayer has a presence that doesn't quite come through for other characters. I was going to put my nickel down as my ante to say that she's based on a living, breathing person. Thanks, DM, for the clarification. If Freya is any indication the lady herself, she must be a mighty presence indeed.

Great character, Rich. Something in the expressions, the words, the gestures...I can't really say, but you've caught something in the whole. Kudos!

I wondered if Freya was real, she comes across as based off a real person. I also get the distinct feeling that I know her/have met her, which is highly unlikely as I live in entirely the wrong country for that. Perhaps she simply personifies all kick-arse, no-nonsense, viking ladies? (I am of course assuming she's a SCAdian viking IRL)

She is, indeed, a SCAdian viking. And a famous one around these parts.
