Hey everybody, it's my first post!
As for dread cap'n Fang, I have my own suspicions... I mean Fang doesn't really sound like a name to me, more like a nickname - but why would the author conceal a character's name? The concealment would indicate the name itself would give away important character details. And who is the D&D's most famous kobold?
It's Pun-Pun...
It makes perfect sense to me - it is often said, that there is a fine line between genius and madness and Pun-Pun's intelligence score is so incredibly high, that he makes Elminster look like a retarded ant by comparison, so it's no wonder his comments - even if they carry some deeper meaning - seem to be random babble to mere mortals. And the extreme luck he displayed during the battle? As a master of all creation, an omnipotent, omniscient (and possibly prescient as well) creature he can alter the reality on a whim, so it's no wonder no-one could hit him. Even if they aimed perfectly, the weapon's path was altered mid-air! This in turn means he might have a soft spot for Arachne, since he didn't annihilate her yet - but she might consider giving him better treatment once she finds out who he really is
Or he might be just an extremely lucky, yet dumb kobold and a great comic relief as well...
