I think Mahr'i just committed her first faux pas with Lolth. And with the Demon Spider Witch, the first is generally the last.

It was done better in Shrek 3 (one of the ONLY decent things about that movie).

Uhmmm... not yet. Arachne is smug, sure, but this is more or less her default expression. Are we asuming automatically that whatever she has in store is good enough for Lolth?
I undesrtand that in terms of storytelling it would make sense for Mah'ri to fall now but i am not sure that anybody can predict the whims of a chaotic evil being such as the Spider Queen.

I'm sure her fear will cause her to do something stupid that will turn Lolth against her.

I am. As crafty and vicious as Mahr'i is, Arachne is better at the game. She isn't playing for prizes, she plays to keep the game going.

The one reason i am assuming Mah'ri is in trouble is her panic. If she did not have something to hide, she would stand by Lolth and get ready to crush Arachne.
