I remember that drow female nobles had a number of male consorts and if they got too attached to someone they were asked to sacrifice him. Apart from that, i think that for a man to be constantly pleasing he has to have some brains and wit as well. Given the competition, they would aslo have to have diplomacy and political savvy. A consort then would have to have a lot of qualities to begin with and to keep himself from being spider food.

Would a free Drow man (as opposed to a 'slave-boy') be immune to the rule that they must be sacrificed if the woman they're with becomes 'too attached' to them?

No, not at all. It was done to prove that the Queen still held Lolth as an absolute priority and nothing got in the way of her devotion.

I meant more in general, and not specifically as applying to Wolf. ^_^;

All drow follow the same rules. Lolth must be their absolute, if somethign challenges that Lolth demands it's destruction.

I think Lolth could make an exception from Wolf... given that she practically forced him upon nephilia she obviously holds him in some regard .
