I bet it was Arachne who put fingers into it and now she's just being sarcastic.

I try to search the archives whenever I get lost, but finding specific details is rather difficult. What exactly is this crystal, and when/how did it appear?

You'll want to start with "Turg's Saga." While Lewie gets ahold of the crystal in this comic, http://yafgc.net/?id=482, Wolf manages to steal it and turns it over to the Alzaer'bith.

Lewie gets the crystal back in "Lich of the Rings, Part I" and uses it to summon Kila, http://yafgc.net/?id=591 . But by the end of Part II, Lewie abandons Kila. Arachne has managed to get hold of the crystal and has used it to summon Lolth. http://yafgc.net/?id=789

I should not be surprised. Lolth was losing her touch for quite a long time (pretty much since she took mortal form) and Arachne seems to have an allegiance to something (or someone) other than the known players

I wonder if Arachne is possibly a direct descendant of Lolth herself. Not her child of course, but a few generations removed.

Not quite the sound effect I was expecting in that last panel.

I have a theory. Maybe the Order of the Spider's full name is 'the Order dedicated to Drow survival in spite of their insane Spider-demon goddess'.

I actually remember reading all of that, now that you mention it. So easy to lose track of details as the story progresses, the general plot lines just kinda flow together.
