When you think of Black Mountain, what comes to mind? For me, I get an impression of an extinct, deforested Tahoma (Mount Rainier), even though given that it would take nearly two weeks to circumnavigate it, Tahoma is likely far too large a edifice to be Black Mountain.

Mount Si (which you may have seen if you've watched Twin Peaks - or live somewhere in the vicinity of Seattle) is likely a better choice, given that it's much smaller, and actually more or less, well, black.

But I still like Tahoma, because it strikes me as (more than) large enough to hold all of the disparate Black Mountain cultures with enough room for them to give each other space.

Any of several peaks in the Rockies, although the lack of a snow cap is a point against.

I suppose Stromboli could also be considered, seeing as how it is a big black mountain right on the edge of the sea.
