Woke up in the middle of the freakin' night, rumbles in the pit of my stomach...

Looks like I'm going to be proposing to my girlfriend before the end of the week. Not 'might as well', not 'looks like it might be the case', but , 'wait, what?' and, 'what's this shovin' me?!'

I welcome your comments, both from the 'WHIPPED!' department, and the engaged/married contingent, because I sure as HELL could use some advice right now...

EDIT: Okay, just to put a bit of context here. We've been on and off for the last five years, so it's not a one-week 'we were made for each other' thing. On one hand, she has a nervous disorder that causes her to have minor - well, she gets a sudden migrane and collapses if things act up. It is NOT a 'mental' condition, but a physiological one she's had since birth, and does have meds for. I can't spell it well enough for the $#@@ spellchecker. On the other - well, with this condition, what kinda complications could happen if she gets pregnant, what could I...

Yeah, I guess I'm married already, aren't I? God help me.

Ohhkay. The sheer amount of DERP one can post while half-asleep. I don't remember writing half of this. Sorry, guys.

Still am nervous about the proposal, though.

All the best of luck, and hoping all turns out for the best.

Best of luck to you! :) I know not all relationships are "meant to be," and plenty of married couples have lots of big problems, but speaking as someone who's been married more than 16 yrs (together nearly 18 - good god... I'm getting old...), it can be a really wonderful experience. I hope yours is one of the latter!

As for the proposal, I'm sure you'll come up with something she'll love. :)

As to the medical questions, ask a doctor, not some strangers on the internet. The MD means they actually know something. We don't.

For the rest, good luck.

Yeah, that was just me worredly rambling, I think. I'll definitely check with a doctor for the real scoop on that. :-)

Plus you may be worrying about something small like that so you can avoid worrying about the actual issue of getting married :-) .

Very good point. Now that I've given it a couple of days to 'decompress,' I can see that not only do I not have nearly anything set up to make it a memorable occasion, my own house (metaphorically, and yes, a bit literally) is kind of a shambles right now, so I'd better take care of at least some of that first.

But, at least I have a definite goal in mind for the relationship now; before it was just kind of there. Thanks!

You might want to explore your feelings about children before involving her. Are you okay with not having any at all? How many would be ideal? etc. This is before you even discuss the issue with her (and you ultimately should, before popping the question). It is definitely possible that she (with advice from her doctor) has already made a decision, and you are going to have to decide on the spot if it is one you can live with.

Just my $0.02, since you asked...
