Wow, another new comic! Okay, I'm adding that to my bookmarks, and to my downloads.

That dinosaur table for Jenny is so cool! I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. You and Hilary are awesome parents. :)

The Dino table looks great! Your talk of the river reminded me of when I used to make miniatures. About 15 yrs ago, when I was last into them, the big thing was use a clear resin for water, sometimes elaborately layering in fish in small ponds.

I mention it because it was the 'thing' at the time, but I'm not sure if you want to do that for the play table. She's surely want her dino's to swim, and if you fill it with a resin, she'll not be able to dip them in much, and they'll be back to skating across it or dancing on top of the water level and pretending to swim, just as you surely did with the painted rivers.

Hmm - maybe a quarter inch or thin layer of resin on the bottom, a suggestion of water that leaves your trough available for more dipping, but makes the river look wet? Wet ish?

Or ... well, continue on as you were <g>

I like the plans you drew up, and it looks like you got a great start on them!

Clear resin is the direction I was going, but a 'skating problem' isn't something I had considered before. Thanks for that. I'll keep Jenny posted and get her input. Layering in a few fish near the bottom is a great idea, actually, since I had been planning a 'pterosaur aerie' for the mountain and Jenny's big on Pteranodons and Rhamphorhynchuses dive bombing for fish.

Hehheheh... y'know, I was thinking about how I miss my own dino table and I do have a rather extensive collection of lead minis. Once I do this I might start [finally] putting together some small dioramas for them. This is fun!

Got some ideas for TARDIS sets for the Doctor Who minis.

There's a gaming convention Origins that takes place in town every summer. When I go, my favorite part is the room full of dioramas that are ostensibly made for gaming in, elaborately made miniatures of every fantasy and sci-fi story you could wish for. Last time I went they were reenacting the Battle of Hoth in one corner, on a table the size of a ping-pong table and a half <g> The careful substitution of an elaborately half slaughtered walker for another was something to see, with walkers sets in various states ready to be switched out lying beyond the snow capped mountains, and folks with remote controlled ships, and protractors and rulers, calculating the changes.

Back on the river idea ... would painting a large fish/dino on the bottom of the lake (or putting a photograph of simulated one) under the resin appeal to her? The character couldn't be moved but might be a fun addition all the same. (Mine would have a Nessie like Zygon ship lurking under weeds <g>)

Hmm, so you will set the Dr Who mini's up on a table - with a big tower in the middle, whilst wearing black gloves (to protect them from damage of course).

A fine idea Lord President.... :P

So, as per todays strip (1880) is Dino-topia going to have a "gnome powered" volcano? (Or a baking soda one if you are concerned about craters, or red plasticine if too messy)

Of course then you would have to build Dino-topia mk2 shortly afterwards....

It probably would be better to simulate a 'nice' volcano like ParĂcutin, rather than duplicate Krakatoa. :wacky:
