Anyone here a big board game freak? or card game

I know many folks here are Table top gamers but was curious if it spread to other games

I myself have my little wish list of Board games
(Small world)
(Pandemic)

So anyone around here love your board or/and card games, even dice games whatever.

The current favorites in our household are "Settlers of Catan", the famous boardgame of tiles, colonies, roads and trade,
and "Graverobbers From Outer Space", the B-Movie cardgame by Z-Man games.http://www.zmangames.com/

I did see the game Zathura in the used book store the other day, but haven't worked up the nerve to buy or play it <g>

I opened it up and you have to assemble the board, but it should look just like the movie game when complete.

Also have just read about he Harry Potter LEGO board game, which you have to spend at least a couple hours building. There's a supposedly complicated set of rules, but typically the rules are up for grabs and folks which out game tiles for others to adjust to their favorite way to play. Sounds interesting.

Let me see:

Munchkin
Talisman
Arkham Horror
The Great Dalmuti
Illuminati
Carcasonne

Recetly tried
Intrigo
Smallworld
Heroscape

And for two players
Colossal Arena
Mr Jack
Magic the Gathering (Who is a nerd? Us? Nah...)

And with our new gaming table, we can finally play Arkham expansions included! Yay board games :D .

I highly recommend Dominion from Rio Grande Games. A couple of years ago I got a chance to play it at a friends place, and became an instant fan. I've since bought it myself and the currently 4 expansions. I live on a farm where we take part in a working for board system for tourists, so we have a lot of guests come and go, rarely staying more than 2 weeks. Of those guests there have been more than a dozen keen on buying Dominion when they get back home.

Dominion is a 2-4 player deck building game, usually taking 30m>1h to play. It looks complicated, but most people will understand what their doing after being shown a few example turns, and have the tactics figured by the end of the first game. I recommend the Seaside and Prosperity expansions, and get the Intrigue expansion if you want to play with 5-6 people. The Alchemy expansion is crap, perhaps worth getting with their 'big box' product, or if it's dirt cheap, otherwise don't other.

It is quite replayable without any of the expansions. The base game has 25 action card decks, and each time you play you use ten of them. There are about 6 example setups which will introduce all those 25 decks, and I recommend going through all those setups whenever there are new players. The same setup can play out completely differently each time, for example the first game can be a viscous arms race or peaceful depending if anyone buys the 'Militia' card (the only 'attack' card in that setup). Once your experienced you can choose setups, or there's a randomiser deck, so there are trillions of ways the game can be set up.

Other than Dominion my favourite board game is Settlers of Catan, using the Cities and Knights expansion. But it's rare I get to play it, usually only if there are 2 German tourists staying that have already played Settlers.

I recently picked up A Touch of Evil and Last Night on Earth. I haven't played them yet but I've read the rule books and they sound like fun. I also play Magic. Two of my favorite board games from the past are Dungeon! and Dark Tower. I still play Dungeon! but the tower in my Dark Tower game quit working long ago.

Descent was hugely enjoyable but pretty costly and lasts for many hours.

Love these. I think I have the entire B-Movie game set.

I'm also a fan of Dungeoneer. I know that Denmark is working on a full-fledged RPG version of the concept, which may come out some time this year.

I'm thinking that I should play Order of the Stick again. I think it was fun the last time we played, but part of me also thinks that it's basically a gimmick.

I also love the Graverobbers game... I have the original plus Skippy's Revenge and Cannibal Pygmies, and I think my sister has the Kung-Fu one.

Arkham Horror is one of my favourite board games ever, because of the cooperative nature of it. I've tried a coupole of the expansions for it as well. If you like Mythos stuff and have a fair amount of time, its really really fun! The Game of Thrones game is also fun. Pandemic is also great, but very hard! I played Nuclear War (and the other expansion) for the first time a little while ago also, and it was a ton of fun :D Some friends of mine I visited in May have the OOtS game, and we played it twice but never had enough time to finish a game - it was looooong, but fun.

While I was in the field I got introduced to a fun card game called Quiddler, which is sort of like what would happen if Scrabble and Gin Rummy had a baby. We also played a ton of cribbage, but that is maybe not the right kind of board game!

And the last one worth mentioning is probably History of the World, which is one of those conquor the world type strategy games, but it progresses through time. I used to play that fairly regularly with some of the other people ion my department when I was getting my MA - we'd meet up for nerdy history games ever second Friday or so - good times...

Oh no, I lied, one more - bananagrams :D
