If you're going to watch any FK at all, I'd suggest the pilot "Dark Knight," (even though first season quality's not great), "If Looks Could Kill," "A Fate Worse Than Death," "Partners of the Month," "Close Call," "Be My Valentine," "A More Permanent Hell," and "Black Buddha" parts one and two. Those give you the basic backstories for the vampire characters, a couple of important character moments for the human characters, and then the cast changes and new intros for the third season.

(sorry - I keep thinking of ones to add!)

ETA again: An online episode guide + summaries

That would probably be "The Fix"; Nat comes up with a drug that nukes the vampire virus in his blood, but it gives him delusions and requires ever-increasing doses to be effective. (mid-second season)

Quote:
I think in a later ep, but I'd be lying if I said I remembered this one very clearly - he takes an archeologist, in a flashback, to a vampire who also says he wants to be cured, and it ends said vampire draining the person who promised a cure, as the whole thing was a set up as a joke on Nick for being so gullible.

And that sounds like Faithful Followers (had to look that one up) - that's early second season.

I linked the most comprehensive episode guide I know of in the post beore this one - it does contain spoilers, of course.

Thanks for the link!

It looks like I missed the whole 3rd season, somehow. Well, something to start checking around the libraries for now <g>

The original pilot movie came out in 1989, and starred Rick Springfield (no, I'm not kidding, yes, the guy who sang 'Jessie's Girl'), and was called Nick Knight. The series started in 1992, starring Ger. I *think* Jon Kapelos was the only cast carryover, but I'd have to go check. I've seen it, and it's very, very bad. :P It was later remade as the pilot for the series, 'Dark Knight' parts 1 and 2.

I saw it a few weeks ago with some friends -- "very very bad" is being kind! :p

Awwe- at least it inspired the network to make a series from the story in it. And it is bad enough to be fun to be to watch, in an MST sort of way.

*just finished watching Rick Springfield in The Incredible Hulk: The Disciple - an ep clearly designed to encourage a pilot spinoff about Rick's character*

Which is exactly how our group treats EVERYTHING we watch together! ;)

And the story begins!

Gotta say I was surprised by the title <g>

OK. Here's a question from a casual Forever Knight fan to the more devoted kind. Now, I hope I'm not uncorking any old flame wars with this. I really just want a bit of polite discussion to help me understand something.

Why all the hate on for the last episode?

I mean, sure the... oh, right. Spoilers.

There we go. Feels odd, worrying about spoilers for a show whose run finished some 15 years back  Anyway...

Sure, "Last Knight" was far from a happy ending. And I want as much as the next fella to see protagonists live happily ever after. And from a technical standpoint, I can even sense a quickly-written, quickly-shot feel to the episode. But is this one of those funny situations where I enjoy something for the very reasons that everyone else doesn't?

The pressure and emotion the cast and crew must have felt seems to me to feed into the writing and performances (especially Nigel Bennet, whom I can not praise highly enough).

The deaths of Nick and Natalie makes the show a tragedy. A powerful, memorable, I-can't-believe-they-had-the-guts-to-do-that tragedy.

And did I mention Nigel Bennet :?: Listening to him wax philosophical, at length, on the subject of suicide was distilled "wow" for me.

OK, enough of my rambling. I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. Just explaining a little of how I saw that last episode, and I want to know what you saw in it.

It's more the behind-the-scenes stuff for me that makes it problematic. The fans, through a massive campaign, managed to get the show resurrected for a third season after it was bought by the USA network... who promptly changed it all around. And then, in the last few episodes of the third season, proceeded to annihilate all of the characters, one by one, in a giant "fuck you, fans, this shit ain't coming back again" move.

Now I loved the Divia story arc, but the way they casually knocked off the entire cast was truly obnoxious. That, and the total dickishness of Nick in the end - it's in character, sure, but entirely unsatisfying when he's set up as the reluctant hero. Nick may be a jerk, but he always ends up fixing his mistakes despite himself, and in this case... you never see whether he did suck it up and fix things or not. Now I firmly chose to believe, on first airing, that LaCroix slugged him one with the stake, brought Nat over, and holed them up somewhere for a while until Nick cycled back to manic. ;)

And we're not even gonna talk about The Human Factor. :naughty:

Oh. OK. I can understand that. I guess as a casual fan I missed out on all the kill-the-show/save-our-show drama. Missed out on a number of episodes, too. Which is why...

will be real easy for me, 'cuz I don't know that episode :dizzy: At least, I don't recognize it by name. Got the series on order, so I'll find out soon enough.

Thanks for explaining this. It all makes sense now.

But I still like that last episode :wacky:

Just wondering, if someone proposed a remake of the series, what would your reaction be?

(I'm still on the first season, but its brilliant)

Honestly? Meh. A huge part of what I love about the show is the actors they cast and the chemistry they developed, and I think it would be very difficult bordering on impossible to create that vibe again... And like poor Brent Spiner, the cast have changed far too much physically in the past 15 years to return.

Besides, there already is a remake. It's called "Moonlight" and the Vampire is Mick.

It's based on the same original source material (the Nick Knight movie), but it's not as straight a remake as I think mmm was asking about. Besides; much like Highlander 2, as far as I'm concerned, it never existed. ;)

Now Kringing: The Disgraced was awesome fun, and had their very own Janette clone ("Lillie," owner of the club "The Haven"). I wish they'd kept going with it; the show improved by leaps and bounds over the eight episodes, and the last couple of them were even pretty watchable! It would have been interesting to see what they would have done with a whole season.

I submit:

Lillie Langtry and the Haven

Janette DuCharme and the Raven

Say, the lady at the top looks familier. Is that the same woman who played the club owner on Kindred: The Embraced?
