The Eleventh Doctor's companion for Season 31 has been revealed: Karen Gillian!

Link to Story and Pics

Karen also follows in the footsteps of Freema Agyeman, playing a minor role in the previous series before getting a main part: In this case a Soothsayer in The Fires of Pompeii

Great, a scottish lady! That hasn't been done before... (wait, that sounds sarcastic. It isn't!)
A bit like Kochanski from Red Dwarf. Interesting!

From the Beeb's pics she looks nothing at all like the Soothsayer. Then again I suppose she was under heavy make up at the time...

With Matt Smith being 27 during filming, and the new companion being 21, it'll also mean one of the (physically) youngest TARDIS crews yet. You can imagine Davros escape-podding away in fury, waving his metal fist, cursing "And I would've gotten' away with it if it wasn't for you meddling kids!"

:hehe: That's the best thing! Though seriously, they might need an Evelyn Smythe or somebody a lot older sometime later on. I thought that the 5th Doctor Nyssa Tegan and Adric were the youngest TARDIS team ever.

It's nice she is someone who is relatively unknown after having a few famous faces(Catherine Tate, Kylie, Billie Piper, Michelle Ryan...) I honestly thought Doctor Who might get stuck with just celebrities as companions. That's not bad in itself, but it's a bit exciting to get someone who nobody knows.

Well, Ms. Sutton (Nyssa) and Mr. Waterhouse (Adric) still hold the record of being the youngest female and male companions. Their birthdays are like only 7 days apart, and so they're the same age. But as he started a few stories earlier, he was only 18, while she was only 19, when they started out on the show.

So a 21 year old companion is nothing to brag about.

What about susan? In the first episode she was still in school. How old was the actress?

Susan was 15 (or at least, that was the age she said, given that she may or may not be a Gallifreyan or Time Lord) but Carole Ann Ford was 23(!)

Just for the record.. I'm personally hoping that Matt Smith's first lines upon seeing himself for the first time will be something like:

"Oh come on.. can I get any younger looking?! Beware Daleks, Beware Cybermen.. beware the Mighty Time-Tot from Gallifrey! (exasperated stomp-off)."

Buahaha! That would be pretty amusing...

I'm hoping they let her use her natural Scottish accent. (Ummm... someone correct me if I'm supposed to be using spoiler tags here, but I was thinking I didn't need to because someone who didn't want to know who it was wouldn't read the thread...?) I love listening to different accents from all over the place. :)

She was pretty good in her previous appearance, and the publicity indicates that there's good chemistry between the new Doctor/companion, so I'm feeling cautiously optimistic for Series 5. It's so hard to wait!

Somebody in Who casting obviously really, really likes redheads... Which is absolutely fine with me. :)

Oh, and another vote for her keeping her Scottish accent.

I knew there was a reason I went red for the brief period that I colored my hair...

Now if only I had any acting talent. :undecided:
