Oh, no, no zombie Eric...the Baron was bad enough...but a zombie lover could join Maula in the caverns at least and still make it a happy end, but Eric as undead would be tragedy.
I do not think she will torture the Good characters like Lucas (she served in his father's army after all) or Cadugan, and maybe even Bob, Gren and Cuddles will be indifferent to her but Charlotte...i am really curious what side of herself will prevail.

Clover's reaction to Jewel's effort at a reality check is perfectly understandable. When you've got that big a swelled head but you're still wearing the same sized crown as you started with, it cuts off some of the circulation to your brain and makes you stupid.

Normally I really like Clover, but right now she needs a massive metaphorical bitch-slap.

Well, family does make us stupid... in some way we remain the child they used to know, maybe because we know they will toleate us no matter what. This could be the reaction of an adolescent Clover. And especially if they kicked her out, she would want to feel superior even in a childish way.

Not that i do not find your explanation better  .

I think it's more like old wounds left to fester. At this point, they could well be gangrenous enough to need amputation of the relationship.

Not that I know anything about this personally.

Ye Gods, Clover's an adrenaline junkie as well as hypercompetitive.

Hmmph. Does she still have the bwee-bwee feather?

Nice to see Clover again.

"Clover: The Early Years" For someone that will eventually become a rogue, what has been shown so far is what I'd expect her past to be.

What I hope the present that follows this background storyline will be is not tame. Clover needs adversity. Making her be "just" a royal mom is like putting a still-good jet fighter into an air museum. Sure, it is cool to look at but it is just so wrong that it is practically an injustice.

What I would like to see is a really "good" evil mastermind that is the king of a neighboring kingdom try to take down Eric. Not with invasion initially but with Cold War tactics. Possibly the assassination of competent members of the royal court to soften up Eric's leadership for the subsequent invasion. The incompetent ones in his royal court strongly advocating and trying to do what modern weak politicians do (pass meaningless resolutions, send "peace in our time" diplomats, try to befriend evil, etc.) but to no avail. Only Clover sees what needs to be done and goes after the evil mastermind. And the evil mastermind isn't stupid and is waiting for Clover to do just this. What results in one EPIC story arc.

If this were done, I would love the evil kingdom to be almost like a evil mirror of Eric's and for Clover to roam around in it thus showing us it. To show us how cruel it is. How downbeaten the peasants are. Public executions to keep the peasants suppressed. A brutal border guard that are more designed to keep peasants in than invaders out. Maybe basing it on North Korea and its insane leader. Do a search on "public executions in North Korea" and you'll see what I mean.

In the epic story arc, the evil kingdom eventually does invade Eric's kingdom and, in the end, Eric wins and adds the territory of the evil kingdom to his. Or, better yet, the peasants of the defeated evil kingdom demanding Clover as their queen but her saying it's a package deal. They have to accept Eric as their king as well.

I know. I know. I'm fantasizing again. But, hey, this is high fantasy. :P

That...would be a months long diversion from our general area of operations. Maybe Rich could work it out on the side and just publish it in installments with the collections?

"Weak" politicians also jump into wars their countries aren't ready to fight, or pick fights with countries they shouldn't be fighting at all, because they're terrified of appearing weak.

How badly battered was Drostardy's army and fleet in the Lich War? Is it possible to win reliable allies for a coalition war against your hypothetical evil kingdom, and if so how long will it take to do so? Is open war the best option, or are their diplomatic, economic and espionage levers that could be applied better? Life's rarely a stark choice between "fight now!" and "abject surrender," after all.

You don't want to be a Chamberlain at Munich, but you don't want to be a Czar Nicholas after Sarajevo either.

Oh, yes, I was expecting the anti-war (a.k.a. anti-Bush) reply to come. But that doesn't make for good drama. Oh, gosh, let us all sit around write up a treaty. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! This is so visually exciting. Oooh. Look at how he signs that treaty. That is so cooool!!! Oh! Oh! Oh! Look at how our economic sanctions are slowly grinding down the evil empire. Since this is fantasy, it will work. This is almost as exciting as watching grass grow.

And let us talk about that "weak" Eric. Taking that huge army to the mountain to force the release of Clover. That was nothing other than horrible sabre-rattling. He should have sent a delegation of experienced diplomats to secure Clover's release while they sip herbal tea and sing "Kumbaya".

I suggest that BK consult Makkabee on how the royal court acts. The ones that the assassins do not kill.

We've already had two wars recently. We don't really need anouther one for no reason. And honestly, I think working out a treaty would be hillarious. You just know there'd be snippy comments tossed back and forth by those involved.

Wars don't automatically make things interesting. Hell, the majority of this comic is people standing or walking around talking about various things. Relying on violence to maintain a character driven comci would be a poor choice and ultimately cause far more harm.

Besides, diplomacy gives rise to espionage, assassinations (Go Go Assassin's Guild!) and seduction of the political kind, often leading to the physical kind.

All of which are much more fun than a cluttered battle strip. Besides, BK could loot history for inspiration. Count Axel Oxenstierna, Cardinal Richelieu, James Bond (or would that be James Bard?), plus the Return of the Fox!.

What I'm proposing is a story arc that enables Clover to get back into the game as a rogue. Something exciting. New territory to explore. New characters introduced.

Treaties just makes me yawn.
