A discussion thread for the new five-part third series of Torchwood.

Having seen tonight's episode, I'm convinced the 456 are the smaller, intelligent 'Scourge of the Galaxy' Macra. They have crustacean like claws, can only live in a soup of toxic gases and their sounds are near indentical to the ones in Gridlock.

Ooh! I've got Episode Three on tap, but will have to wait till my kids' nap tomorrow midday to watch it - rats! You can be sure I'll be getting back to you, though.

I've got to say, though, Episode Two really surprised me with the differences between British broadcasting standards and American ones... I did a literal double-take (had to rewind!) to be sure I really saw what I saw. Totally wasn't expecting the full frontal Barrowman...

I bet the full Harkness had been at the back of RTD's mind since he started writing the series. :hehe:

Undoubtedly! :sneaky2: I recall Barrowman saying (in the DVD extras, maybe?) that he was bummed when they cut out the butt-shot in Bad Wolf. Oh, what a difference 2 hours in broadcast time (9pm vs 7pm) makes!

I just finished watching "Day Three" myself. I think that's definitely a viable theory.

Scary conspiracy stuff, too. What do you think they want the children for? And do you think Jack's role in 1965 was "official" - that is, Torchwood-related - or something else?

I think this series is giving off a distinct Classic Who flavour - slow reveals of monstrous claws, complexities and conspiracies, uncondensed storytelling etc. It feels Torchwood has finally grown up.

I guess that's one of the advantages to doing a short series like this, as opposed to the modern (NuWho/Torchwood) style of series. You can have a long, drawn-out storyline unfolding from episode to episode instead of a bunch of one-hour (or at most two-hour) one-off plots. While I've always enjoyed the new format (since it was, after all, what I first knew), you're right - allowing for an "uncondensed" plot is really nice. :) Plus, extra creepy points.

I know... the cast always has to move on in a show like this, but it really bites when they do. :(

I've been waiting for Gwen to leave, now that she's pregnant. Or, hell, get tragically killed, now that she's pregnant, and Rhys take her place at Torchwood.

Holy Hannah...I can't believe Day 4...Gotta love torrents.

I have two questions, though...Concerning the events in Days 1 and 2 Does this mean that Jack's Vortex Manipulator is gone for good? ...And Day 4 Is it me, or does the child in the breathing mask (in the 456's tank) remind anyone of the face of the captured Toclafane?

I think there's a heckuva lot that's gone for good. :undecided: Like the "archive" of former employees(!)...

Ew. Hadn't thought of that, but I can see what you mean.

Ooooooo... K.

Was that the last-ever episode of Torchwood?

I don't think that there is any official news either way just yet. I think that Lois Habiba and maybe the government enforcer, Johnson, would make very good future cast members if it does.

I'm hoping that in the Christmas Specials/Season 31 the Doctor will find Jack at the spaceport, give him a smack round the back and tell him to go back to Cardiff. :P
