Barry (The Flash) Allen? I was getting a silver age Jimmy Olsen vibe myself (with a dash of Doctor Henry "Indiana" Jones teaching in College).
Sheesh! The Costume Department didn't make much of an effort, really. It doesn't seem very iconic. Hopefully it'll just be a one-off outfit for a single episode

Also revealing the companion's name is Amy Pond!

Erratum slip: it's all over the BBC's Doctor Who website. Truly massive picture: http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/medialib ... _large.jpg

Nor me.

(But then, I was afraid they'd just throw out any shred of uniqueness and make him into mini-Tennant. At least he's doing something a little different.)

Edit: At least they're letting her keep her red hair!

So, apparently the new Doctor is Tucker Carlson? :dizzy:

I like it, quirky little mad professor style, like a blend of the Second Doctor and Sherlock Holmes.

Remember, the Doctor doesn't need to show himself through what he wears, which I think Ecceleston proved. And you don't want to OTT like sixie did.

I thought the bowtie was a nice touch. That's somewhat quirky.

...and as JustAWanderer said, at least it's not like the original publicity shots, where his outfit looked a bit like a cross between Tennant's and Eccleston's.

It needs something... A scarf, maybe. A long, multicolored scarf...

Seriously, I'm cool with it. I do think it's missing something, but at least it's clothing and not a costume, like Tom Baker's last season and Doctors 5-8. In Tom Baker's pre-JNT years, he wore clothes, not a costume. So did Doctors 1-3. They may have been OLD clothes, but they were clothes. I loved Peter Davison to death, but I hated that exact same cricket outfit, every show. No variation.

Eh. I suppose it could grow on me. (Although I must add that Mr. Smith himself hasn't yet.)

I'm allowing myself to be "cautiously optimistic" about both costume and actor. Considering that Moffat was dead set against another young actor, and was then convinced by the audition that Smith was the guy, I'm willing to wait for an actual episode to decide.

As I said earlier, I think the bowtie has some quirk-potential, so I'm still hopeful that things won't go down in absolute flames.

mrfranklin, I think Smith will do fine in the role. So far, there really hasn't been a bad apple in the bunch.

My concern is that he seems more a David Tennant clone than his own man, but that's based on what little I've seen & heard, so hopefully I'm way off base.

I think (and this is pure speculation) that Moffat's idea that an older man should play the Doctor may have been vetoed from someone higher up at the Beeb. They need someone who will stay in the role longer, for marketing purposes. Smith is young enough that he could end up spending more time in the role than Tom Baker, if not more screen time.

Maybe I'm just too willing to believe the official releases , but the interview snippets with Moffat during the Confidential in which Smith was announced implied to me that the choice was (a) almost entirely in the hands of Moffat, and (b) not one he expected to make going in.

Based on other interviews I've seen (Tennant, Davison...), it seems to be almost traditional among the actors ("common knowledge" passed down from Troughton, as I understood it) that 3 series is enough, and then it's time to move on. I'm not sure if believing everyone's likely to stick to that makes me overly credulous or just plain cynical.

Was much more traditional than I thought it would be. I like it except for the bow tie, and I can live with that.

I don't mind the Doctor wearing a costume. I mind him looking like a thug, as Eccleston did. Matt has no problem in that area.

As someone first introduced via Eccleston, I haven't ever thought of it as a "thug" look... Even so, that's kind of how Nine was feeling, pretty immediately post-LGTW, don't you think? Dress how you feel, and he felt thuggish...?
