Anyone got any predictions about what will happen in Series 5/Season 31? Or any ideas on unsolved mysteries from the RTD stories?

My theory on the Weeping Angels:

so, the Doctor said they were from the beginning of time, and "could not exist while they are being observed". How does a species evolve like that?
I believe they are not their own species, but Time Lord criminals from the early days of Gallifreyan history. Anybody who was deemed to be harmful (or anybody Rassilon wanted to get rid of) could be transformed into an Angel and sent away. For a psychic race like the Time Lords, being deprived of companionship (the Doctor called the Angels the "loneliest race in the universe") must be a torture, a perfect punishment to scare the population into submission.
The reason the Doctor doesn't know about this is because it was a conspiracy, or just forgotten over time.
This also explains why the Angels have the power to manipulate timelines.
Maybe "Weeping Angels" was a derogatory term used/invented by Rassilon, and it eventually became myth.

What do you think?

But then why set them loose to kill hundreds of people?

. . .

Granted Rassilon was sort of a bitch, but still.

Interesting question. Were they set loose, or did they get loose on their own?

going out on a limb here: maybe they were locked up at Shada, and Shada was destroyed in the Time War?

One of the things to keep in mind as that Dalek Caan broke into a timelock to free Davros. If the angels are Rassilon's punished Timelords they could have slipped out of the timelock that Caan damaged.

I'm ... not buying that bit. The Time-Lock was to hold in the Time War, not a lock for a prison. Even if the war got out of the Time Lock, which means it continues to roll on, a prison is still a prison. It's not going to stop being a prison because a war was let loose on the universe.

The theory about Rassilon creating Weeping Angels is interesting, but I have to agree the 'why' is something else.

Besides, with the amount of time the Doctor spent in the Time War and seeing Rassilon's activities, you'd think he'd have known about that particular hobby of Rassilon's, creating serial killers and setting them loose upon the universe. If he didn't know, I'd be willing to say they aren't something the Time Lords created in a snit to be nasty. :smart:

I keep hoping that the REAL Cybermen will return. The only problem is with the Big Finish output, believe it or not. If any character is going to appear in NuWho, Big Finish seem to loose their rights to use them. They were stopped from using The Master and Davros before their TV reappearances, but they have now produced a new audio mini-series Cyberman 2, featuring the Classic Cybermen. They make a good reverse barometer. :(

Speculation: The Rani will return! And she's regenerated as none other than The X-Files' Gillian Anderson! As far as how did she escape the Time Lock? She snuck out when the other Time Lords were trying to escape.

And why do I say Gillian Anderson? Check this link out: http://www.denofgeek.com/television/239 ... _rani.html

That would be pretty cool. I don't particularly care one way or the other about Gillian Anderson (although I've enjoyed her the few times I've seen her as Scully), but I've been thinking for quite a while that the Rani would be a great one to have return. I'm iffy about how they'd manage the plausibility, but Moffat's had some good ideas in the past, so we'll see. :)

I'm leaning on the side of "Only A Rumor", this has been around since April of last year.
There was no comment from her, someone swore she denied it but I can't find a reference. We'll see.

I think the most obvious things are gonna happen, after seeing the trailer it's gonna be Weeping Angels, Daleks and Silurians.
Also Vampires and River Song.

Well, considering one of the stories for Season Fnarg, is titled "Victory of The Dalek's", I think it 's obvious that a Dalek would turn up somehow...

<offtopic>So glad to see someone else regularly calling it "Series Fnarg" like I've been ever since I read that first post! :D</offtopic>

Every series so far has involved Daleks in some capacity. Even without a title like that, I'd be shocked if they didn't show up. Not disappointed, mind you...

Reports from the series launch last night confirm the Cybermen will return later this series.

@ Mass: *sigh* not THEM again.

My interpretation of the Time War:

When the Seventh destroyed Skaro, Davros built up a new Dalek army for revenge. The Daleks attacked Gallifrey, compromising the defense systems.
All those opportunistic evil races out there decided to attack Gallifrey as well, thinking they could gain control over Time (like the Sontarans tried).
Somehow, the President and/or most of the governing body (High Council or the Cardinals) were killed, and the only option left to the desperate Time Lords was to resurrect Rassilon, who changed the focus from "defend us and Gallifrey" into "take over the damn universe".

What do you think?

If it makes you feel any better, Doctor Who is not the only show to pull the "The bad guys are completely and totally annihilated, once and for -- whoops, there they are again!" routine.
The THIS network is showing reruns of Stargate SG-1 on Sunday nights. Last week, Apophis made his second comeback.

At least when they brought the Replicators back for Atlantis, they made it a completely different group of machines that we happened to be calling Replicators.

I still think that instead of bringing the Daleks back over and over, the new series should bring in other characters using captured Dalek technology.
