Bad things happen, not everyone gets a happy ending. And Jone has already had a better life than she would have, she was nevera whore after all and now she's royalty and the chosen of their race's primary god. Not too shaby for Jone.

Besides, even the saddest of endings can be countered with a few strips of Jone being rewarded in the after life.

In real life, yes. In stories like what YAFGC has been so far, not so much -- not main characters, anyway. Owen died, but even that wasn't so bad as he wrangled a haunting out of it. So far there have been bumps in the road but things have generally worked out pretty well for our regulars. Rich could of course bring Jone to a tragic end if he wants -- his comic, after all -- but to do so would be a pretty major departure from what we've seen so far.

While I'm not prepared to guess the twists and turns on the way, I'm still expecting a happy ending for Jone.

Owen actually had a life before death. Jone just had some sheltered weeks. It is going to be interesting any way but if she dies it will be a different kind of storytelling than the one we are accustomed to so far -harsher and more dramatic.
Come on, BK, even this nasty Dickens person had his urchins live happily in the end .

Ever read Hard Times? Not too many happy endings there. Ditto Curiosity Shop and Dombey and Son. And I think it's Barnaby Rudge that has the main character murdered by his father.

Happy isn't often in Dickens. Acceptable is about as high as you get.

Which is what I expect for Jone. An 'acceptable' fate, but not a happy one.

Well, Pip did survive which is more than Victorian urchins did and Oliver Twist prospered in the end. They are the ones closer to Jone i think... though i doubt any of them was the inspiration for her, unless they had secret bloody pastimes only BK is aware of .
On the other hand, how ofte do you get 'acceptable' in fairy tales? As Calvino said they end either in death or in a marriage -in myths you get the extremes.

so why isn't Jone running with one or more wargis? She has a pack of humanoids, why not some four legged friends too?

I hadn't thought of that. Why aren't they after her already? A whole bunch of females from all Black Mountain races is not a thing to miss, they should be on her trail.
The armor looks good on her. Now if she gets herself a banner...

Im just hoping that 'Uncle' Lucas can stop her before she suffers a most horrible fate.

Considering she's behind the murder spree that's got Lucas all worked up, her running into him is more likely to cause a horrible fate than avert one.
