Or a conversation about a Vampire Masquerade session...the ''and did you really have to drain all his blood?'' quote is a useful one to 'escape' you in a crowded bar, when you are getting impatient for your turn...

I don't know how those who play Demon the Fallen survive lynching, probably they take oaths of silence after each session!

Also, where in Wales are were your family from BK?

My grandfather grew up in the Rhondda valley and worked as a coal miner during the war. He later moved into Bristol England and got a job in a shop with Rolls Royce. My father, while actually from Bristol England, spent a lot of his youth in Rhondda with his own grandparents. I have been, very briefly, through there, though when we did go over the pond (I'm a Canadian) as a family, we spent most of our time in England (Bristol & Bath mainly) where the majority of the family reside.

I know this is a real shot in the dark, but do you have an Anne with a son called Jamie in your immediate family?

It's just I've got some family from Bristol that emigrated to Canada. It would have to be a hell of a coincidence, but you never know.

I don't even know their surname though. I'll ask my mother next time I talk to her.

Oh, do please ask... Though it seems unlikely. I don't recall any of my closer relatives actually living IN Wales. My cousin Anne is still in Bristol, I believe.

I will, but it seems really unlikely now. The Anne I'm talking about would be 60ish now and as far as I know would be in Canada, Toronto I believe. I seem to remember Jamie sending me a baseball cap with the Bluejay's logo on it. I think he'd be about 35.

Never mind. That would have been cool though.

Now what was the topic of this thread again? <grin>

It was Anne and Wales, IIRC.

Personally I like G.U.R.P.S.I enjoy the multigenre aspect of it & the versatility of making practically any character i can think of. If i want a knight that tosses fireballs, I can make one.

Vampire the Masquerade's not bad,but it does attract the goth crowd.Though, it's really only the ones that seem to think that they really are vampires that bug me.The game does tend to be very politics heavy which can get a little dull, but overall,it's alright.

I'm currently playing in 2 games right now.One is Serenity rpg, which is an alright system.I've had fun so far.
The other campaign is in D&D 3.5.Personally,I don't like levels or character classes. They make me feel limited in character options.
But,the only actual problem that we've encoutered though is 2nd edition withdrawal. But,that fades in time.

To be honest, I'm not prepared to say that 2nd is a BETTER system then 3rd. I don't konw 3rd enough. I refused to upgrade mainly because we had all the books we needed to play 2nd already and it works for us. So there was no point in blowing wads of cash to get them all over again.

There were a few business practices and tactics used by WotC that we didn't appreciate (including the 3.5 upgrade planned-obsolesence), and when I made a character for a 3rd ed campaign I never got to play, I was a little unhappy about how powerful I could be right off the bat.

My denial of 3rd Ed, though, was mainly financial rather than artistic.

Well, it is true that 3rd edition has its flaws but i enjoy the versatility. The 2nd was somehow limiting, and i am not talking about the level of power you could achieve. Not being able to play an elven bard was idiotic, for example. Also the 3rd edition allows for much more personalized characters. For example, why should a wizard, especially a wizard of a long living rage, know nothing else but his/her books? Or a fighter know nothing but how to bruise people? It is much easier now to built a character and a background that does reflect on your character sheet as well.
On the other hand i admit that when a Greek fanzine made fun of the 3rd edition saying that they should give a laptop for free with the core books so you could calculate 'the easy algorithms necessary for hitting something' it wasn't far from the truth...all that 'plus two from that spell, minus one from holding a shield, minus two for having eaten spicy food before the fight, minus one because you insulted the DM...' make a battle hard.
One the other hand they mean that you have much more to do when you engage in battle even if you are a fighter: you can combine feats, position yourself strategically, or if that is what you want just go ahead and hit. And it IS much more realistic that the 2nd edition combat.

Another minus of the third is that it misses the classical feeling of the 2nd which had a much more medieval - fairy tale style in its art and choices of characters. The versatility of the 3rd means that the world has a much less defined atmosphere. It is up to the DM to provide that feeling now - for example i forbid the prestige classes that are inspired from Chinese/Japanese tales, and another DM forbids the too flamboyant magic using classes to keep the setting more medieval than fairy tale.

Of course players are divided over that, but the 3rd edition supporters of our group have the ultimate argument on our side: calling the 2nd edition fans Granpa!

Please don't ban me now that i came out and said that... :D

Actually, using Players options:Skills & Powers in 2nd edition did allow for more versatile characters than in 3rd.Though,the only problems I did have with 2nd edition when i played it were race level limits & spell slot memorization.
