Well that first part was certainly worth a watch.

Various expectations such as the doctor being the content of the box were sort of confirmed. The similarity in the name to Pandora's Box explained. This time the robot did detonate or at least the auton shot the girl.

I can't help feeling that there are plenty of temporalparadoxrs goign on such as the presence of the cybermen and other non-time-travelling races.

My theory: All of this is a "story" created by the Valeyard in the Matrix. It's supposed to confuse the Doctor.

it was the best episode of this season and i liked how all the doctors worst enemies united togther to save the universe from him very ironic pity they didnt know about river song :( this is the doctors worst ever defeat since he cant save himself let alone the whole universe

heres the descrption for next weeks ep

The Doctor is gone, the TARDIS has been destroyed, and the universe is collapsing

fav quaote from the ep was : so you come to me for help, no we will save the universe from you

only question i have is who was the voice in the tardis who said silence will fall becuase i dont see who could benifit from the universe not existing ...except maybe omega?

I noticed that, too. How'd they all show up together in Roman times - and just the right Roman time?

I also wondered about that. Not so much the who could benefit part (didn't think of that angle, for some reason), but the part about who the voice was. I'd be pretty psyched if it was Omega or the Black Guardian, but I'm not holding my breath. :) (Then again, they've brought back every other Doctor Who baddie in this episode, so why not them? ;))

The other questions I had were these. Does anyone else really believe Amy is truly, irrevocably dead? Did it appear to anyone besides me that River already knew Amy at the beginning of the episode? There were never any introductions made, never any glimpse from River that she was meeting Amy for the first time (despite this being before Amy first met her). I guess the real question for me is then, did River already know Amy, or is she just that smooth (which I also find entirely possible).

I dont know what is going to happen but I smell a comic book (or Star Trek) style retcon of the entire Doctor Who Universe.

Not that that is a bad thing after all of these years.

Hmmm... I'm not sure I agree that it wouldn't be bad. To me, the sense of continuity (what there is) is a key and integral part of the series. ...but I'm also not willing to rule out your assessment of the possibility. :)

I agree that the continuity is a wonderful thing for a series. The problem here is the changes to the world and tech in the past several decades makes it harder and harder to stick to the old ideas.

Guess I'm not quite sure what kinds of things you mean here... This may end up being one of those "agree to disagree" moments, but I'm all for some discussion. :)

I just meant that like what happened to the old Star Trek franchise, when a lot of time passes in the real world it gets harder to keep the suspension of disbelief going on a younger and younger audience. Some of the history that has occurred on the original series has been surpassed by real history. Any time they mentioned something that happened in the 1990's for instance has messed up the story because the audience is still using the real world as its guidepost. The kids today are not like the past generations that can enjoy a show as a complete fantasy including its own history when it is set in the real world. I myself love the original run but even back then the writers were stumbling over each others storylines and history. Add to it real history and it makes it harder to deal with. Most of the new viewers that I have met here in the States for instance never saw the original and are totally lost at the story lines. Sometimes a show that uses time Travel has to play the rewrite card. The Doctor even said recently that some events can create entirely new futures and should be aloud to happen. I think that is where this might be going. This is a for better or worse kind of thing and not one that I am sure I would be happy about personally. But as with the last Star Trek film I was surprised to like a universal reboot, but it was written so well that it didn’t spit on its original and makes a smooth logical transition. I can just hope that the Doctor has the same smooth transition.

As far as Amy being gone forever, I heard that she is signed for the next season (series).

I'm still hoping against hope that this will signal the return of the Time Lords. I think it was a mistake to kill them off. Seriously though, I doubt that's going to happen.

Rory, however, should be ecstatic. I think they rebooted the Universe, just for him. :)

Did anyone else notice that these are the alternate-reality Cybermen? When are the ones from the Whoniverse gonna show up?

I agree. I hope it's the Time Lords, they can't be gone forever. It would do so much good to bring them back. No more "lonely god", and they'll be someone out there to keep the Doctor in check or just generally get in the way :)

I'm tired of the Cybus-men. The old Cybermen would be much better, but I'm beginning to think they must've all died in Silver Nemesis or whenever it was that Seven faced them.

OK, I'm with you on Star Trek. :) I also was pleasantly surprised, and thought they did a good job making it fresh but also throwing several bones to those of us who are fans of the original.

Here, however, I don't see a necessity for that kind of reboot. Doctor Who kind of reboots itself all the time anyway... Maybe I'm not coming across the same fan base you are (despite being in the States and having several friends who've never seen any Classic Who). ~shrug~ Let's just hope Moffat doesn't go that route. ;)

I've tried not to find/read/pay attention to rumors and possible spoilers, though I did come across that one somewhere, too. I'm not assuming anything yet. ;)

That would be totally schwa. :) I think it's someone else, but I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that Moffat brings them back "for real" at some point. :)

~sigh~ I'm betting never. New design is too "cool" and "updated" for them to go back to the Mondan Cybermen. Which is a shame... I agree with Cleverest Name - I'm kind of tired of them...

WELL since this was a trap and the romans where robots it might not even be roman era on earth

since river dates the doctor in the future she while not meeting amy before this might know of her like she did about donna in the libary ep

seem it young amy to the rescue because pics of her apear in the gallary for the final ep  how shes gonna save the day i got no clue

Not for a second!

Yes, I got that impression too.

I'm still theorizing that River is a Time Lord. She speaks Gallifreyan and can pilot the TARDIS. Now, it's known that the Doctor taught her how to do it, but what if he taught it to her years ago in his past? Maybe she's Romana?
