Something about that sentence made me laugh, but i have no idea why! I think its the full stop (or "period") after page. Seems to scream "comic pause for effect".

Things are surprisingly quiet here. I should have thought someone would have cheered the latest crossover. (I'm sure I've seen a version fo Doctor Who looking quite like that.)

But also anyone worked out what the various comments in the pub scene are referencing? Fear of plague in the North presumably in one case? And what was going on in Scotland at that time? When did the English seize Mary in relation to what's going on here?

Seize Mary? I assume you mean Mary, Queen of Scots? England never seized her. Running away from plots against her by her own people, Mary escaped to England and threw herself on Elizabeth's mercy looking for refuge.

To which her cousin replied by merrily placing her under house arrest, but that's family for you. ;)

I imagine that the events in this strip will be taking place well before Queen Elizabeth's marriage?

I know there's some kind of goofy throw-away line in one of the specials, but Elizabeth 1 died unmarried. Full stop.

I think it was the Shakespeare episode - At the end of the ep as they were entering the Tardis The Queen saw the Doctor and ordered her guards to get him for some reason.

Not sure if I've got the right episode though.

No, in that one she just hates him and we're never given a reason. :D Iirc, it's in not this special but the last one, there's a random line where the Doctor claims to have married Elizabeth, which really reads as the writers having a bit of fun instead of anything real.

I don't know - I don't watch the show. Rich mentioned it in passing.

Actually it's in the most recent one (End of TIme part 1) where he says she needs a new nickname.

Big Finish did an 'Historical' (non-canon!) story with Queen Mary, The Marian Conspiracy. It stars Colin Baker, and is generally sci-fi lite, focusing on the history instead, like some of the old 1st & 2nd Doctor stories. Worth listening to if you can find a copy.

Which Mary? Tudor, or 'of Scots'?

'Bloody' Mary Tudor, (Sorry, I'm more of a Sci-Fi fan than history fan  )

No worries - there's just a whackton of Queen Mary/Maries out there during the Early Modern Era, so it helps to have clarification (I was pretty sure you didn't mean Marie de Guise, for instance). :D

I am going to say something very, very bad about the preview for the next Doctor Who arc.

...

Are you ready?

...

That organ reminds me of the one used by Prime Evil, from the 'Real Ghostbusters' cartoon. ^^; Sorry about that.
