The Fox Film was better than:

The Gunfighters
The Twin Dilemma
Mindwarp
Delta and the Bannermen
The Happiness Patrol
Love and Monsters
Anything with the #&@ Slitheen in it.
Victory of the Daleks

There are a couple of those I haven't seen (Gunfighters and Happiness Patrol) and a couple more I've only seen once, but I think I have to agree with your assessment, BK. The Movie was campy, but generally enjoyable.

The only classic series story i had seen was Delta and the Bannermen so I really can't say much for the rest of the classics. You are right though. Delta and the Bannermen wasn't horrible, atleast to me. It will probably be lower in estimate once I watch a few more classics, however. Yes, the movie was much better then it at any rate. :D

Love and Monsters was pretty bad. Ok. It was very bad. The Slithreen. UGH!!! Say enough? Victory of the Daleks. UGH again! I really liked the movie. It has it's flaws, but I really like it.

Actually the Slitheen were turned into decent villains in one ep of The Sarah Jane Adventures, but sadly the improvement was forgotten about in later Slitheen appearances.

A pity - it did just what was needed to make them story worthy.

While I enjoy Love and Monsters, and most (but not all) of Delta and the Bannerman, I'm not sure I disagree that the movie was better. It was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to watching it again.

Deep Discount lists it as the first item in their filled front page, for $23.79

Ya know I just watched the dvd and saw the paul mcgann audition which has some stuff that is out of this world you thought the half human bit was bad I am wondering if I should tell it now. Its a big spoiler if you don't have the special edition dvd.

also sometimes I wish they would take two seconds to explain
1. The Master's snake form and spitting thing.
2. Being half-human and why it takes a human to open the eye.
3. why the eye is in the tardis.
4. How chang and grace came back to life.
5. Why the seventh doctor just walked out of the tardis instead of just poke his head out, he can see out of the tardis and see that the tardis is being fired upon can't he?

course answering one of my own concerns was I found it in doctor who the forgotten with the tenth doctor getting memories of his lives back and one was of the eighth doctor who said that he used a half broken chameleon arch to fool the master.

You've got to read the book.
1. Since "Survival", the Master's been posessing alien forms to stay alive, jumping from body to body much like Jason Voorhees in "Jason Goes to Hell". The crystal-like serpent is one of the alien bodies he jumped into for convenience. Unfortunately none of them can hold him very long and they degenerate quickly. He NEEDS a Time Lord body.
2: His mother was Human all along. You just have to accept that for the continuity of this story and not worry about the rest of the series.
3: The Eye of Harmony isn't actually aboard the TARDIS, it's just a control unit that ties in to the actual one on Gallifrey. The Doctor was entrusted with this control unit because of his unique physiognomy. His retina scan reads Human, so the lock is keyed to a human pattern. So only the Doctor [or a Human] can open it. Human's are primitive apes who wouldn't understand what they're getting into, so they figure there was no danger.
4: The TARDIS is semi-scientient. It felt the same way the Doctor did about their deaths, so it used some of the left over energy from the disaster to "regenerate" them.
5: No explanation for that. Except that the Doctor is in mid-crisis. He's been forced to land and knows that the Master is on the loose. Why he stepped out at all is a question, he knows the Master is still in the TARDIS somewhere. *shrug* Chalk it up to plot requirement theater.

More dramatic plotholes in the movie to address are why the Daleks agree to let the Doctor come and pick up the Master's remains in the first place! But the book covers that too. He wasn't permitted, he slipped in quietly and stole them after the Master sent him a telepathic plea to take him home.

Why does the 'Eye' only allow the Master and Chang see the last incarnation and not all 8?
In the book, they see all of them.

Why doesn't the Master have his famous goatee when he possesses the paramedic like he did when he posessed Tremas?
Eric Roberts refused.

Why does the Doctor kiss Grace?
Trying to appeal to a new US audience who expects this kind of crap.

This is why we can't have nice television shows.

Although I suspect that it's no different than other culturally-expected tropes that don't seem to serve any intelligent purpose. (For example, I remember a time when Hooters Of Unusual Size weren't de rigueur in anime, and fan service only occurred when it made logical story sense.)

Oh, the Doctor will kiss anybody. But tho there was the rare peck in the older shows, the first modern story telling where the Doctor just picks a girl and kisses her because he's happy, did throw fans in a tizzy.

Nowadays it's just accepted as part of the show.

Just be thankful that the Dr Who movie wasn't as bad as the US versions of Red Dwarf and Ultraviolet.

They were both so bad they never got past the test screening of the pilot episodes, and the producers actually admitted that they screwed them up badly.

I like the way he managed to avert the "would you want to do the regeneration into Ecclestone?" question by complaining about his wig!
I actually think McGann should be allowed to choose his hairstyle IF he returns. It looks like the McGann/Ecclestone regeneration won't happen due to Ecclestone's reluctance to return anyway :( Unfortunately, this is a problem that can't be solved ny putting Sylvester McCoy in a wig!

I disagree. His Doctor did need the wig. Or at least hair grown to fit the look <g>
He was arguing for a militant persona to keep the hair, and the producers and directors were smart enough to know that would not work for the Doctor, in their story. Whatever we may think about their leaving in the half human bit.

I totally love the long hair look for Eight! I can see why he hated having to wear a wig, but that regeneration did need the long locks.

If you have access to the R1 DVD of The Movie, be sure to check out the material in the extras that includes his screen test. He's got his own hair long there. No wonder the producers wanted that kind of style!
