Clover (despite being an assassin, but I'd say she doesn't have to have an assassin prestige class to fill that role in a unit - or she could have taken the levels in assassin while evil and turned good since then) is at least neutral and even more likely - good.

She wasn't ever evil. When the elf cast Protection from Evil, only Glon got burnt. Strip #126. Clover was standing right next to him. She could be neutral, of course, but all the actions I've seen her take points to her being good. I'm right now reading through the archives again to refresh the old gray cells.

Quote:
So to have her join the main cast, we need her "eviled", so that she finally fits in - that would give her the reason to live in the cave and possibly - in a way - to be free while doing so.

Does she need to live in the cave? Rich has already shown that main characters don't need to be in the cave to be part of YAFGC. The Baron being one such example. Also, perhaps YAFGC has outgrown the cave and needs new lands to explore, such as Eric III's kingdom.

And without good, can there be evil? Could Clover and Eric III be the good counter-part to Archne and the members of the Cave?

Still then again, how evil are the people of the cave? Aside from Clover, the women in Archne's cave are masochists and want to be there. How Turg departed was hardly the exit of a villain. Glon's mom genuinely loves her son. It seems "evil" of the cave is more one based on lust and selfishness than brutal oppression by the powerful of the weak, killing for enjoyment, or, aside from the comical Lewie the Lich, trying to conquer the world. In fact, the people of the cave seem very isolationist. You leave us alone and we'll leave you alone. This is after all a humorous comic and thus its evil is likewise. The comic's name makes that clear.

As for loosing her if she gets her happy ending, th strip is not restricted to the caves by budget concerns :-) .

And though she is one of my favorites, i think a writer would much rather give a character a fitting end than give him a story that does not fit simply to keep him/her around.

Good points and I agree.

And what if YAFGC moved beyond the cave and into Drostardy kingdom? What if Eric III needed information extracted from a traitor? Would it be out of the question that he consider asking Archne to do the job? Surely the Drostardy castle has a dungeon. Might be an upgrade for Archne.

Or maybe Drostardy has a truly evil element in its borders and what better way to fight evil than with evil. Archne and cave mates being the lesser of two evils and if they get killed, good people wouldn't view that as a real loss. They could then stay in the then-vacant dungeon, evil castle, or, even better, giant caverns underneath the royal castle (like the Batcave under Wayne Manor).

We can then still have the fancy palace balls ... and then the after-ball orgy. The royal court is probably all jaded anyway and would love to spice up their lives with a little naughty evil on the side. I could see a long line of nobles outside of Archne's dungeon ready for their punishments for being "bad boys and girls". I could see Gren acting as the dungeon's maitre d'hotel for Archne. Gren: "Do you have reservations, my Earl?" Earl of Yokeshire: "Yes, two for leather and whips." Gren: "Ah, yes. I see it here. This way, my lord."

I know. I know. Long shot. :?

If she really loves the dude, she'd want to find as good a wife as possible for him.

After all, kings don't get to marry for love, generally speaking. And sadly, most princesses were (in reality) badly inbred, so they often had the looks of a half-dead horse (no chin, bunny teeth, dumbo-ears... if you know anyone with these traits, he or she has aristocratic blood.) It was the same with the princes... just look at some of the more realistic paintings of monarchs "of old"... ugly buggers. Finding a really lovely princess was quite difficult, again, due to inbreeding (nature knows what it's doing... ugly usually means "bad genes, prone to illness, stay away.")

Kings have mistresses for love, however, and Clover could be one of those. Mistresses were chosen for their looks and their wit (princesses weren't always the brightest of candles, mostly they were Official wombs and spent their time waiting to give birth to a son. Occasionally they were the Brains behind the Throne, but then you might wind up with an Agrippina... Meep) (Nero's mom, not Caligula's).

Then again, maybe Clover looks too much like a child to the king for him to consider marrying her... or she isn't connected to anyone important, that wasn't through his decree...or maybe he sees her too much as a comrade in arms, more as an equal.

IMO, I'd be kind of freaked out to see a tall flaxen-haired king with a wife whose head barely made it to his hip...

Evil voice in my head: Well, at least she wouldn't have to bend over to give him a quickie...

But what if she thinks she is the best possible wife for him?

Yes, in the real world of the Middle Ages, that was true and I am sure that both Rich and Hilary know this, especially since they're part of the SCA. Then again...

In the real world of the Middle Ages, they didn't have drow, minotaurs, elves, dragons, and the closest thing they had to Halflings were midgets (proportionally smaller). This IS high fantasy, after all, where we can ... well ... fantasize.

If Clover is of neutral alignment, I could see her being willing to settle for that. However, if she is of good alignment, I don't think she could settle for that. Now while everything to date seems to point Clover to a good alignment, I don't recall anything that made it definitely clear that she is of good alignment. However, as I have been wrong in the past, let us see if Hilary (who is accustomed to pointing out where my memory is faulty) can point out the strip where this was made clear. The only thing we do know is that Clover isn't evil due to this strip: Protection from Glon Note that Clover is standing right next to Glon when the spell is cast. Oh, and also note how Clover's height varies in that strip. :na:

After being introduced to him this way? Strip: Brea-King Out Look at the knockers on her!

All good points. That and possibly he's gay, a racist as far as love goes, or doesn't feel man enough for Clover since she saved him twice and he had to take a massive army to save her once.

Oh, I think it might cause a stir. No doubt about that, but maybe ... just maybe love will conquer all.

Or Eric III will simply beheads all those that make faces.

Not to mention all the fun such a couple could have in bed. When the woman is light enough, they can do all kinds of things equal sized partners cannot do. I know this for a fact and from personal experience. I'm 6'3", built, and 245 pounds and was in a relationship with a woman that as 5"3", slender (dress size: 0), and 100 pounds. We did things not even dreamed up in the Kama Sutra.

Mostly relieved, at the moment, that people are reading it and thinking about it instead of, say... tapping their toes and thinking "Okaaaay, enough of the hobbit-chick. Let's see more of Chimera or Cap'n Fang, and what the hell happened to Gren and Bob???"

At least, MOST of you don't seem to be. (I know at least one of you IS).

Clover reminds me of Dick Cheney.

It's just like when Bush put him in charge of the committee to pick his running mate.

Ok, so Clover is a halfling... I know... but...

Can't she shave her feet for the wedding? I've heard of brides getting cold feet, but hairy ones?

I doubt she'd be able to find good shoes (which is probably why she doesn't wear any) but still.

Wedding dress + bare, hairy feet?

Eeghh....

Eh, she's beautiful the way she is. She IS a halfling- it's a part of who she is. She's not a human with exceptionally hairy feet. AND it's probably considered 'ew' in halfling culture to SHAVE their feet.

No matter the foot hair-itude, Clover's an awesome character, I also really liked comic number 556 "Ain't no value in Halfing brides, eh?"

Funny little silent interactions. Hins are hilarious.

Personally, I thought it was hilarious when the hunting falcon took off with her. The problems with being tiny.
I think that's one of the reasons that they are making them taller in D&D4e.
