So, I caught up today ... on last week's ep.

Not bad - bit of a murder spree at the hands of one officious middle man, stopped by the guard. I was glad the guard stopped it, but Esther's actions were ... well, more dumb than realistic. Going under cover with her real name, when they knew there were moral monsters behind this, and then tops it all off with a panic over choking the guy unconscious. Okay it was her first fight fight, but c'mon, the whole thing was about no one being able to die. That's how it's been for weeks. Now suddenly the guy closes his eyes after she cuts off the oxygen and suddenly she panics about killing someone? Guess that "How blonde are you?" comment was really deserved after all.

On the how stupid name thing again, I see everyone using Jack's name instead of making one up. Again .. why use the name of the one guy the people who created the camps mean to kill more than anyone else? Rhys knew that as much as everyone else, even if he is kept more out of the loop than anyone but Gwen's mother.

The best moment was Gwen blowing up the ovens.

(Even if they were full of people about to be burned .. tho maybe the transports stopped because they stopped burning folks till 6am??)

Did anyone see if they said they had Gwen's father? cause I didn't see that. So either they put him back in the ovens, or Rhy's did something clever with Andy and kept him hidden.

No actual word on her father. Here's hoping Andy's clever...

Also note worthy, I think this is the first ep where Rex didn't act like a complete and utter jerk at some point.

I can actually like him, instead of putting up with him because they feel some character has to be mostly a loss as a person to get drama in there.

Yes, he was almost likable in this episode. :)

I have to say, though, that so far I'm overall fairly disappointed in the series (season). Apparently 10 episodes is too many to tell this story; not enough plot development in each episode, and an appalling lack of Jack (who, in my opinion, is the heart and soul of Torchwood).

I can give or take Jack on Torchwood (I like Doctor Who Jack better) - most of the series he seems to me to be there to flail around like a failed hero, while Gwen pushes him forward and sticks to doing the right thing, no matter what he says.

Gwen's more the heart and soul, to me I guess. Jack is just the poster boy <g>

A lot of folks have talked about the amount of padding on this show ... I'm okay with this ep (possibly bcs I saw it the day before I saw the next) - just Esther sabotaging all her best efforts gets to me. I thought she was supposed to be the character who underestimates herself and pulls thru, not the character we overestimated based on her clever escape from the CIA early on.

OK, granted - Doctor Who Jack is much better than Torchwood Jack. :) I wouldn't say that Gwen's the one to do the right thing all the time, though. She's made plenty of stupid decisions...

Yeah, I wasn't too impressed with Esther's use of her own name. I mean - hello! - the CIA has been trying essentially to erase you! The smart thing to do is to keep using your own name everywhere you go...

I try to pretend season 1 and most of season 2 didn't happen - so ignore Gwen's wildly uncharacteristic bad decisions, like dating rapist Owen, etc. She's been the moral center since that whole thing ended.

There's certainly been some character development. ;)
