Not voting does affect the outcome. You are ceding power and authority to someone else, and turning democracy into an oligarchy.

Exactly. But in real life there sometimes are situations when all the possible candidates are equally foul (probably diametrally reverse of this case) and whether you vote or not -- it's too late to change something by voting.
