Dungeons and Dragons 4th edition - Wizards/Hasbro are releasing it this summer, I believe.

And to answer the original question, not us. We're still playing AD&D 2e Revised, if D&D is called for. Otherwise, Silhouette (DP9) or Unisystem (Eden).

I take it you mean 4th ed D&D. I think I'll hold off till 2010 when it was meant to come out (money grubbing ratfinks). Or if I do end up using it sooner I have no intension of converting existing 3.5 games.

I guess we will know when it comes out, and we can see if it suits our style. But the thought of buying all the supplements again...and learning a trillion different rules from the start...ugh.

Ayup. Why do you think we're still playing Second Ed.? They'll take my THAC0 away over my cold, dead body.

I am way into the devblogs and such of 4th edition. I believe that it's gonna be awesome. But yeah I see what everyone else is saying.

Well, if your gaming group likes it no need to worry what others think. I guess i am a tad annoyed by their whole marketing campaign...if they are selling the 'making of' books, what else is going to be sold as gaming content? Also White Wolf's radical change turned to be for the worst, and i would not care to see that repeated.
Then again everyone is a bit afraid of change. I guess it is wait and see. After all no matter what, previous editions material will be wonderfully cheap after that :-) .

Oh snap! Do I feel stupid now... I thought it was some kind of a convention or something (ala E3)... *ashamed*

As one who's played all the editions (well ok, I never did play 3.0), I have been adamantly reluctant to change as each new version came out. I believe AD&D (1st edition) was the longest hold out for me, though 2e is now a close 2nd to that by now. I refuse to reinvest in even the core books after 2e, and 4e will be no exception. Though I now play several 3.5 games online which limit things to books published in their srd or pdf's friends have sent me, our table top group is still hardcore 2e fans (even if I do use some 1e stuff as DM, shhh don't tell them).

I'm quite certain some of my younger gaming friends will check it out, as they have only experienced 3.5, and let me know what they think. But this is one old gaming geezer that's stubbornly holding onto what he values in a gaming system and not falling for their tricksy marketing ways.

Oh, and good point Morgana, about previous editions being cheaper after they release the newest. I picked up many of my 2e books after 3.0 came out at considerable discount from the original prices.

I'm pretty much gonna give it a try. I've pre-ordered up to the 4eDMG.NO clue if I'll buy anything beyond that.

I had a peek at the setting changes of Forgotten Realms. It will be set a hundred years from now, some Gods will have been killed (in unconvincing storylines if i may say) and a lot will have been eradicated, plus most known NPCs are out.
I cannot say i liked the changes but again, wait and see. What i know i did not like is the seperation of the elven race into elves (wood elves) and eladrin (sun, moon elves). Meddling with archetypes of the game does seem somehow off.

Oooh... I love FR, even though it's a lil bit let's-throw-everything-ever-used-in-a-fantasy-world-together-and-puke-it-all-on-a-map kinda thing. 100 years sounds like quite a leap.. We all can do without Drizzt, but I really liked some of the other characters. If you feel like sharing any more info you remember, PM me. Or give a link, whateva..

I am posting it in case more people are interested:

http://www.enworld.org/ is the main page, http://www.enworld.org/index.php?page=4e contains the news articles and the forum in particular is a good source of information.

Didn't think to ask about Drizzt...could we be rid from him? By the way couldn't agree more with you description of the Forgotten setting (ninja's? NINJA'S?) but still it is my setting of choice -just keep vettoing the insane player requests for indescribable prestige classes!

In terms of the games shift fromt he current edition to a new edition (ie 3.5 to 4th rather than taking in earlier editions to account) Some of the Ideas and plans and mechanics for the new edition seem interesting. Alot of the presented cosmology for their 'default' system are pretty good. It works alot better than using a poorly defined teeny portion of greyhawk s your setting without actually officially doing so.

Ive been reading the forums and find the drama pretty funny to read actually. Although I personally plan to just wait until it comes out then look at it when its completed rather than trying to judge it on tidbits.
