I don't recognize the skeleton with hair in the last panel.
Is that Lewie's doing, or a side character from past strips that I have missed?

She is the "flying head+intestine vampire" who did flee to the mountain after here body was destroyed, Lewie did give here a skeleton body.

Have you noted that Lewie only doing good/neutral act after he did recover his memory and come back to the mountain.

Lewie the apprentice was a good person, can you be a good advisor to a evil queen?

There's our little penanggalan! She hasn't completely regenerated yet, I see... I wonder whether she'll stay under the mountain after she's finished that process.

Kinda hard to do anything about your sister's suffering when she got herself cursed by the diety that was her roommate. Lolt was pissed when she did do somethign about it and only stopped because Anancy actually had a scapegoat for her transgressions.

And the penanggalan hasn't regenerated at all, that's the body she got from Lewie. At least with two bloodsuckers living together they'll be able to share victims!

I know that's the body she got from Lewie. She was supposed to start growing skin and muscles again to restore her human appearance for hunting purposes. ^_^;

Wikipedia says that penanggalans don't have own bodies. They use bodies of their victims as disguise. When Tara arrived into Black Mountain, she was already in good physical condition, but for some reason she hadn't acquired a body to hide.

Since she came through unsettled lands, it's conceivable that she simply didn't find one. Particularly so if she was picky about getting a human female of decent or better appearance.

It's also to be noted that by the time she got to the Black Mountain, she attacked the first person she found (Yapp). Food and clothes?

She still had nowhere to wear those clothes. And a woman's head on a gnoll body would look too odd.

Perhaps, but she wouldn't have to worry about sunlight.

Besides, can't about half the humanoid monsters be described as {ANIMAL} head on a human body? About time the inverse got some play.

The bodies of most humanoid monsters have humanoid structure, but aren't similar to human bodies. Gnolls, for example, have thick body fur and longer necks and thus are clearly distinguishable from humans even without comparing the heads.

This is a new one on me. My research stated that Penanggalans have their own bodies and if they lose it can slowly regenerate a new one. But if sunlight touches them in their flying head form, they're dead.

A-ha! Then Tara will get pretty again. Feel free to not show the no skin change, we would not want to overburden you .
