I would buy a 10 Doctors printed version...
No matter what the cost! 33%  33%  [ 27 ]
Only if it was $10 or less per volume (for cost of production, essentially) 5%  5%  [ 4 ]
If it was $15 or less per volume 26%  26%  [ 21 ]
If it was $20 or less per volume 32%  32%  [ 26 ]
No, I read it all online 2%  2%  [ 2 ]
No, other reason 2%  2%  [ 2 ]
Why are you doing this, again? 0%  0%  [ 0 ]

We've had a lot of requests to have a print version of the 10 Doctor done up, and the issue has always been finding a printer who will look the other way with regards to copyright and the BBC's iron fist. We may have an option lined up (I repeat *MAY* - they could still tell us to go stick our fanfic where the sun don't shine), but need some input from you.

The book would end up manga-paperback sized (5" x 7.5"), and there would probably be two volumes of currently-uncertain length. Let's say 80 pages, since strip 74 is the natural break point for Volume 1, plus room for a few extras. Spelling mistakes and some graphics levels would be corrected, but the book would remain black and white, with a colour cover. Our printing costs look to be about $6 for that size book, plus shipping, plus tax, plus order processing time and labour.

I wish I could have put "no matter what the cost". But money's tight (at the moment). So I went with the $15. As you guys gotta make SOMEthing. And I'd be oh so happy if I could actually get that rarest of rares...The Richard Morris graphic novel!!! Huzzah!!! Long live the Gorpo (and hot chicks in tight purple trousers)!!! :cheerleader:  :choccake:

Money being tight, $15 sounds reasonable. I might pay $20 for the colo(u)red version, which would increase your income with the completionists considerably <g>

I hope you can get BBC to actually let you do the comic for them one day..then you could make money with adverts on line and such.

Unfortunately, making the interiors colour, with no other changes, would push our costs up to $12 per volume, so we'd have to charge a minimum of $20 anyway. And that wouldn't even begin to cover anything extra we'd have to pay out to a colourist, since it would be unethical to make profit off of a volunteer's labour, etc etc, or to cover the time that Rich would be using to colour instead of working on paid commissions. So it'd be more like $25, minimum. :dontknow:

I live in the US, and I'm guessing that a relatively small scale publication like this would have a hard time making it over the Atlantic. I'm all for you getting published, by I'd be heartbroken if that meant that the comics would no longer be online for me to read.

Not at all! I'd still put them onto the blog for the readers to see for free first. The volumes would be a keepsake.
Incidently, there'd be no problem of the book going over the Atlantic. We're in Canada. It's the border patrol you have to worry about.

That's too bad that $20 wouldnt cover the costs of a colored version. I also live in the US, and sadly have noticed the US is becoming more and more unreasonable with the neighbors to the north. My friends cant even bring cookies with them when they visit for a convention! Mailing from the US would be cheaper and faster if you were allowed to bring the comics with you on a trip someday, but who knows what Border Patrol would come up with over comics if they wont allow cookies anymore. (BTW, our mailing prices increase tomorrow..again!)

So I guess I am limited to online for now. But I would be willing to put up with ads if BBC let you make money online with them.

Of course, if BBC approved the comics, they could print them up and take care of the costs themselves <g>

We'd have no problem at all shipping to the USA; mark a package as a personal gift, and Bob's your uncle. I don't forsee there being any problems shipping anywhere, really; the only issue would be if/when someone alerted the BBC and we got a cease & desist.

The only thing I'd worry about is someone ratting to the BBC. They're sending cease and desist orders over fan made *knitting patterns* right now.

However, I'd *love* to get one. Would we have to wait until after the comic was finished, or would there be a volume published while you were still creating?

The first volume is something we're poking at now, so hopefully we'd be able to get it ready and printed (again, IF the printer will accept the files) by the summer. The second volume would be whenever Rich finishes the comic, or we get through another 74 strips, whichever comes first. :D

Well, keep us posted. I'm assuming we'd be going through PayPal.

I think it would be cool, then I could show it to my friends who haven't had time to go to the comic blog. Money is tight for me right now as well. $10 is the normal price for my manga, so I thought that would work best for me. I can do $15 as well, I was just thinking in terms of my manga costs when I voted.

I realy do not give a rat's ass about the bbc having taken them on a few year's back when they were hyping up Michael grae at that time I send them a very nasty email about him and they replied that i could not say what i said about him and i informed them that i could and would anything i wanted to about him because this is The USA and so far as i stilll do know we can still say most anything we want about anyone and anything and what are you going to do about it.

So to me printing a poster on a fanfic site is no big deal if you have already done this and or are planning to what you print is your own busniess still providing you do not really infringe on any real exsisting copyright law's which are up to debate still in this time and space.

"No matter what the cost!" - How about a high-end special edition version, say, autographed and hand-bound or something, to go along with a $10-$15 version for folks who aren't hardcore collectors?

I agree with other poster, you are more likely to raise the ire of the BBC if you're collecting $ for a product...

I'm definitely in. I'd get it for any amount that's not totally outrageous. And I promise not to tell the BBC if you won't...
