So far the only ones that have been hits with the kids -I'm trying to get them to watch old stuff - has been the one half hour ep of The Chase, when they land in Frankenstein's house was requested on Halloween, and they laughed a lot at Creature In the Pit, one of my favorites but often dissed. It has tons of great one liners, which as tons of the classic shows have theories as rubbish as the sfx, is all I or they cared about.

I was next going to dare Sontaran Experiment, as it's 2 eps and very short (They've already sat thru -complaining all the way- Ark of Space and Genesis of Daleks) I thought short was the way to go with the next one.

If he can sit still for longer tho, City of Death is good. (Nebulous, radio show spoofing Doctor Who and a couple of other shows, spoofed that for their final ep, Tempus Fugative) Humor of Douglas Adams, Duggin knocking everyone out, and a good storyline.

Survivor is a good ep, one of my favorites... I'm just rather enthusiastic about King Arthur, and have adapted some of the lines from it as good Doctor Who joke during a tour of an Egyptian exhibit showing early languages hieroglyphics.

Since no one sells the Doctor Who movie in the US, maybe he'd sit and watch it on the computer. A search will reveal Realplayer versions out there, I'm sure - chosen bcs it's not easy to copy so a safe way to show vids without someone pirating them.

Oh, I can't wait till my not-quite-3-yr-olds are old enough to watch Who! They already know the TARDIS on sight (mostly thanks to this past year's Children In Need promotion on the official website, where the bear walked out of the TARDIS and waved - they wanted to watch that again and again and again and...) But that begs the question, what to show first? Eccleston, like I first saw? Someone "approachable" from Classic, like Davison or T.Baker, who would've been the firsts for Brits of my generation? Hmmmm... (It's like deciding whether to start your kids' Star Wars experience with Episode I or Episode IV - tough call.)Yeah, I thought that one was pretty good - nice to see the introduction of the Sontarans for those of us who saw them first in Sontaran Stratagem/Poison Sky. (Wowza, the costumes! Yeeks...)The hubby does like Douglas Adams. Perhaps I can use that as a hook to draw him into a second serial. Plus, how can you go wrong with a John Cleese cameo? Ooh! I'll have to look for that. Even if he isn't ready to watch it yet, that would give me a chance to see it sooner rather than later! Hmmmm... <plot plot scheme scheme>

The young ones all started with Rose and fell in love with the show. I hijacked a projector at a convention in 2005 with some DVDs that arrived in the mail that morning and when I showed Rose, some families watched. One little girl told her mom "He's like Monk!"
-eccentric guy - genius- that solves mysteries with a blonde woman basically acting as an interface between him and all of humanity.

She had a point.

Rose is always an easy hook for the young ones, so I dont mess with it. After the first couple of eps they dont care if it's in order or not, so I just show the most fun ones.

There are about 72 Doctor Who DVD's available there, at a pretty good price.

M'reen was referring to my complaint that you can't get the 1996 movie with Paul McGann in the US (not available on DVD; really hard to find on VHS).

Total unavailability is, in my mind, validation for download and burn. If nobody's making money on it, or if they've made it impossible to make money on it, then you ain't stealing from anybody. That's how I got MY copy.

That's actually one of the criteria for deciding whether or not an intellectual property suit would stick.

Right, then! I'll go find it!

I haven't watched all of the 4th Doctor's Serials and none of 5 ,6 , or 7...

So I guess mine will be incomplete:

1. The Mutants (The Daleks), Just because I love them

2. The Moonbase

3. All of them, he is by far my Favorite and I can't choose just one

4. So far... Genesis of the Daleks

8. Hmm, Gee I don't know

9. Curse of the Fatal Death... J/k (In fact that could be a good joke all the way up to incarnation #13) Father's Day is my real answer

10. The Next Doctor, probably soon to be superseded by The Planet of the Dead

Not that anyone really cares , but I thought I'd give an update on the hubby-inDoctrination process.

We are now most of the way through Inferno, and he is actually enjoying it. He says it definitely feels like a Doctor Who story to him (remembering that he, like me, was introduced to the franchise via NuWho). I believe he said something to the effect of, it's got mad scientists, furry green monsters, "...throw in an alternate universe, and you're done!"

Soon I'll have to decide which of Four's adventures to try. Decisions, decisions...

Just pick anything before Nathan-Turner took over as producer If it has SJS or Leela in it, it's a winner! (Also prays for the day when Pertwee's Invasion of the Dinosaurs is remade by the Restoration Team with CGI monsters)

Well, I was thinking about starting with either Ark in Space or Genesis of the Daleks, with City of Death as a possible backup (cuz hey, who doesn't like a cameo from John Cleese?).

I don't know that anyone will ever "restore" with new monsters (I don't see the BBC pulling a George Lucas on Who), but I would SO love to see more of the lost Hartnell/Troughton episodes restored as animation like The Invasion. Good stuff...

Welll, Underworld might be an exception...

First Doctor: An Unearthly Child, if only for the first episode, as many other people have mentioned. The other three episodes have their merits ("There will be NO FIRE!", the Doctor discovering himself nearly killing an injured caveman, the Cave of Skulls itself), but the first episode does it for me. Or, even better the original pilot version, which was much better paced and more atmospheric.

Second Doctor: Admittedly not my Doctor, since I haven't seen any of his serials, but I'm just totally psyched up about watching The Invasion.

Third Doctor: The Carnival of Monsters. It's silly. It's incredible. Definitately one of the episodes to avoid logic, but between the Minorians and the Drashigs and the truly tasteless Lurmans it's just intrinsicly fun.

Fourth Doctor: Tough, but I'm leaning towards City of Death. The chemistry between the Doctor and Romana is great here, the Parisian setting is divine, and Douglas Adams' snappy writing is on top form.

Fifth Doctor: The Five Doctors. (Okay, it's not a serial, so sue me.) Nonetheless, it's a great mish-mash of most of the series very important persons up to this point, and nice continuity nods and all sorts.

Sixth Doctor: Trial of a Time Lord: Terror of the Vervoids. A return to the "classic formula", compared its less conventional stablemates. And the way any introduction is jettisoned, and Mel is suddenly just there means the plot can drive forward.

Seventh Doctor: The Curse of Fenric. More of a preference due to cinematography than anything else. This one is filmed entirely on location, meaning it's a much more realistic tale of vampires and Norse mythology.

Eighth Doctor: I'd like to take this point to say that the Eighth Doctor is quite easily my favourite. I'll get back in my corner in a minute...

Ninth Doctor: The Unquiet Dead. Jet black comedy from the Remarkable Gatiss, also the first episode to ever terrify me. On first broadcast I wasn't familiar enough with the show - "Is the Doctor going to die?!?! In Cardiff?!?!" but looking back on it, it's a classic Dickens would have been proud of.

Tenth Doctor: The easiest decision I've ever made. Midnight. Many episodes have been based purely on a brilliant concept but failed to carry it out (The Invisible Enemy, anyone?). But Midnight manages as minimalistic, Doctor Who on a budget. It feels like Russell T Davies is trying to write like Steven Moffatt - if he'd done that more often then the new series would be incredible. Speaking of which: Series 5, bring on the Moff!
