2914 Ten Years Of Yet Another Fantasy Gamer Comic
So here we are at the almighty tenth anniversary of YAFGC. I can say that I am rather proud of my achievement with HUGE thanks to my beloved wife, DM to whom I complained all those years ago that I never seemed to ever get very far on a project. She encouraged me to try try try and with lots of support it’s been ten years of almost regular updating.
Ten years, two-thousand nine-hundred and fourteen strips.
I’d like to thank as many of you as possible in person, so I’ve set up a little chatroom here:
http://chatwing.com/chatbox/ac3310e0-2509-11e6-8f2b-5b86056374fd#
Which I plan to visit this evening around 8:30pm Atlantic Time to say hi, share laughs and ‘visit’ with whoever’s available to join me. Hope to see you there, and if you can’t make it I’ll try to arrange another time to set one up.
Thank you all for reading, laughing, and sticking around.

..and it’s gone.
The comic is missing for me too…
…and the comic is STILL missing from this page…
No idea what’s going on with your browser. I can see it fine.
Same here, never had a problem when it first posted or now
Maybe I’m the only one having problems, then; forgetfulman’s comment is ambiguous.
It could be one of many, many things on my end….I’m sure I’ll be able to figure out what happened from context, I appreciate very much that you took the time to see if it was working for you.
While I have your attention, can I just say, I really enjoy your comics and yafgc is by far my favorite! Among the many specific comments I could make about drama, unique humor, or art-style I’m gonna choose to mention that many artist who use what I’m going to refer to as "Disney-influenced" art styles claim that it is impossible to do so and make a female character both "traditionally attractive" and "distinguishable from other traditionally attractive females," but that after being shown your art, they stop making that argument … that is up there with drawing circles freehand as far as subtly extraordinary artistic feats.
Well, thank you ..even later.., that is a hell of a compliment! I’m glad you enjoy it and I hope I’ll be able to keep making comics that make you happy! 😀
It has been a privilege to read such quality comic for many years, thanks Rick that you take the time and effort to do this comic.
Rich, Thank You! You’ve shared a wonderful world with us all.
I’ve lost track of when I first found YAFGC. I’ve read and re-read everything several times now, so I no longer recall the exact strip, but my best guess: http://yafgc.net/comic/0393-the-precious-potion/ … or certainly somewhere pretty close to that one.
I knew I was in for a hilarious ride once I started catching up, and you’ve never let me down. There have been some really great laughs along the way, and a good few of them when I really was in need (Real Life has been pretty "interesting" and "exciting" for some time now).
But, even more than that, just some wonderful storytelling and fascinating characters well worth the investment to get to know.
Thank you, and again thank you. May you keep going for as long as you wish, and may it always bring you joy.
Amazing!
Thanks for this wonderful comic
The good: Glon’s family was not actually in the mountain (though a great many other people were). The bad: Glon does not know that. I think towering homicidal rage does not even begin to cover his reaction. Let’s just hope Ranna is sloppy and didn’t think to eradicate the mountain below the surrounding ground level. A lot of the living area was well below that, after all.
I can just see the enraged Glon tracking that energy trail back to where it came from… and on the way, finding the statues of Lucas and Cadugan, just to enrage him further. I look forward to seeing where this leads, wherever that may be.
We all figured you would probably kill SOMEONE off in this story, but who could have guessed you would kill the whole mountain? (The mountain itself really was sort of a character.) You will no doubt still be surprising us in another ten years. 🙂 Thank you.
He already had killed someone: Ajan the Topless Sorceress (and possibly Luke and The Cad)
Lucas and Cadugan are WELL PRESERVED.
They. Are. NOT. Dead.
/me goes to poke fingers in her ears and sing *lalala* to herself.
Long time reader here. I don’t remember which strip I started with, but it was sometime around when Arachne was trying to set Gren up on a date.
Only one other web comic has managed to hold my interest that long. Thank you for all your effort and for building a world and characters I love coming back to week after week.
It’s been a great 10 years, and I hope it continues.
If you don’t mind saying, what is the other webic?
Freefall:
http://freefall.purrsia.com/
Oh yes, always check that out every Monday (both the grey-scale and colour, side by side)
You… CHEESE!!!
WHAT. HAPPENED. TO. ARACHNE!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Who _cares_ about Emo Glon, you can’t leave the fate of Arachne like that!!! >:{
Well she was walking in the desert last we saw her, so she should be ok.
She was knifed through the throat in the previous strip… so less than okay.
Tis darkest afore the dawn. Grim fates have fallen on many, and grimmer still to come, I fear.
Okay, so Mountain go Boom!! Weren’t most of the ‘good’ bad guys outside laying siege? So Rancid just obliterated what remained of her forces? o_O
Can’t remember when started reading this (before the major site overall when some of the arcs didn’t get transferred back) but it is one of the few to be checked every day (don’t have it saved, manually enter URL everytime)
I’ve been following off and on for almost the entire run, and I only just recently went back and read through the entire archive. As a world-builder myself, I have to congratulate you on your achievement: the detail of your world and the rich variety of your characters.
This storyline in particular — ten years of hinting and foreshadowing. Most impressive! So I’ll only bag on you a little bit for revealing that everything’s gonna work out in the end with this whole "Ranna" thing … at least for the next ten years 😉
Everything that I would have said, and more, has already been said. So, I’ll just turn round your last sentence and say, "Thank YOU for creating, entertaining and sticking around!" It’s been a wonderful last ten years.
Rich, congratulations on 10 years of YAFGC, a big round of applause, and, above all that, many, many thanks.
I first started reading YAFGC back in 2008, and was hooked from the start. Your artwork, your way with characters, the way you tell a story, with all the twists and turns, your way with creating drama, the laughs, the suspense, the variety and imagination you had back then and still have to this day. You are a master storyteller, Rich.
Your comic has provided not just a great deal of entertainment over the years, but has also been a great help for many of my own dark times. You have managed to create fictional characters who seem real, who have touched my heart with their joys, their sorrows, their triumphs and their failures. You’ve given your characters, human and non-human alike, for lack of a better term, "humanity." You’ve never taken the easy road of making all your monsters completely evil, or all your human and humanoid characters completely good. They all have a mix of moral strength and frailty. You’ve developed a world of complex characters and civilizations, with widely divergent views of "good and bad." Yet none of them are wholly good or wholly bad, just as your characters are perfect.
These are just a few of the reasons why your comic has been such a delight to read these last 10 years, and with those and all the other elements you’ve put into this comic, will continue to be a delight for the next 10 years and beyond.
And, in addition, the care and thought, the love and heart that you’ve put into this comic, is always apparent. As real as your world and characters are to me and all your readers, to you the must be even more real. Your care and love for the YAFGC world and its people is obvious. No doubt you do enjoy coming up with the challenges, the hardships, the moments of triumph and of failures, the times of their successes because of a character’s talent, strength, imagination, and intelligence, to their failures because of all of them have failings. And, no doubt, while you do put them through their paces, you are probably just as surprised when they do something right in a way you would never have expected, as when they goof up in such a way that leaves you wondering how could they make such a mistake.
Thank you again, Rich, for 10 years of YAFGC, for Glon, Lucas, Cadugan, Bob, Gren, Arachne, Wolf, Jone, Ranna, Baron Elwood, King Eric and Queen Clover, Prince Eric the Short, Ch’Thier, Prince Kassim, Dewcup, Drow-Dewcup, Charlotte, and so many, many others. It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’m looking forward to seeing what you have next for this world and these people.
*stands and applauds*
*sits and giggles*
Don’t look now, but you left your fly open 😛
A belated thanks, also, to DM, for encouraging Rich to start YAFGC, and for all the support and ideas she’s given to him over the years.
*continues to stand and applaud for BK and DM*
Happy 10th anniversary! I started reading somewhere around mid 2007 or so, blitzed through the first ones in about a day and have loved it ever since. I have a great fondness for all the characters but somehow Captain Fang has climbed to the top of the heap
Wow…ten years, I must say that I´ve been reading the webcomic for only 4 years, but I´m in love with it. I was afraid these week´s updates were somekind of goodbuy, now i´m glad to find that all was for the anniversary.
Come on!! For another TEN F&$@#€ YEARS!
I’m pretty sure I came here from the Ten Doctors, and I’ve not left since! I just want to say what many others have already said, which is thank you for this amazing webcomic. You’ve managed to capture every sort of emotion and mood and spin it into a tale that I hope never truly finishes being told. Thank you for being such an incredible storyteller!
Happy 10th anniversary! I hope this doesn’t mean the comics will be over after this story, with no mountain to return to …
Good goddamn. I have never seen so much tragedy befall so many major players in any of the arcs of this story. You’re rounding out 10 with a major kick in the stomach, and we’re all thanking you for it, Rich! X)
Seriously, though, this comic has been amazing. Though the story has changed its "main characters" as time wore on, they’ve all been amazing and compelling and memorable. You truly make me (and I’m sure many others) hate the villains that harm our beloved characters so, and that’s a testament to how invested we are in them. I, for one, can’t wait to see how this all resolves, and hope that certain players aren’t truly dead.
This comic truly is the GoT of webcomics. Fantasy, intrigue, titillation, messed-up relationships, and always being afraid you’re going to kill our characters. X) Happy 10th, Rich!
Um, congratulations! (I’m not good with praise.)
After this display of overwhelming power, I’m having a bit trouble imagining how you intend there to *be* another ten years O_O
It looks like somebody dropped a fiery mountain on Istar, oops, sorry wrong story 😉
No, _this_ is the mountain they dropped 😀
"Happy tenth anniversary! To wrap up the tenth year, I’m nuking Black Mountain. You’re welcome!"
Everyone’s gotta celebrate somehow. 🙂
Ooo! Fireworks!
Belated congratulations — I usually check "the day of", but other commitments prevented me, and I had to backtrack a strip first.
Wow. The word epic gets bandied around a lot, but in this case it definitely deserves it. Ten years — and with such a literally explosive payoff too!
My biggest praise is how you’ve taken the generic template and stood it on its head. Ten years of showing how supposed "monsters" can be, and are, fully-realized people, and beauty is not only in the eyes of the Beholders…but everyone else. 😉
Take a bow. Take several. You’ve earned them.
*Bows* Thank you very much! 😀
Congrats on ten years, Rich.
Nicely done! I’ve been reading from the last 6 years, and every nem comic, I find it amazing!
And, in my home language:
Muito bom mesmo! Parabéns pelos 10 anos de publicação!
Que venham mais 10!
Thank you, Gracias! (I hope I got that right. I’m not really good with languages. <:)
That’s portuguese not spanish, anyways, congratulations for the 10 years, been reading for 8 and always eager to devour more of your comic’s lore.
A friend introduced me to YAFGC because he said I had to see the budgie gryphon. I archives binged in my spare time to catch up. I’ve been reading ever since, through good times and bad. YAFGC has always been a bright spot in my day. I’m looking forward to hearing what follows this update, because, yeah, that was epic scale in the true meaning of the word.
Oh man, bringing actual tears to my eyes. I don’t remember who all got out of there but even if they all survived, those caverns were special. *sniff*
Truly bringing the drama up to a new level. I can’t wait for the next instalment!
Hey Rich,
First of all, congrats on the 10 years!
I’ve got the feeling I am a relatively new reader here – I stumbled upon your comic some point in March 2013, while the guest strips were running. I cought up with it as quick as I could, and still read it since (though this is the first time I write a comment). What to say, yafgc quickly become one of my favorite webcomics. Actually, I can’t thank you enough for all the amazing stories you telled us, for all the smiles and laughs, and all in all, for creating this wonderful world!
Thank you so much and welcome to the community!
Congratulations!
I should be in bed by now – as it is the alarm is going to be set for just over 3 hours – but I didn’t want to not acknowledge your milestone on the proper day (even though it is tomorrow where you are).
You know how I feel about the quality of the strip, so I’ll leave that to my usual daily comments.
What I want to highlight tonight is this:
1. Most webcomics start strong and then fizzle as the ideas run out. This has absolutely not been the case. I think this current story, tying together so many disparate threads, is among the strongest ever.
2. Most *artistic projects*, when ignored for a while as outside obstacles instrude, *never* get picked up again. You’ve endured several of these circumstances, and bounced back every time. This comic is a great achievement for many reasons; this is among the biggest.
Thanks for everything.
Love,
t!
Cool a new sky light that will help clear up that mold problem.
Always look on the bright side of life.

Congratulations!
And best wishes for the NEXT ten years. 😀
Somehow, I’ve never felt so desperate to see the *next* comic, and who if anyone survived this. (And if you now switch to an Adina storyline, I might have to come to Canada and smack you :P)
No, not Adina (this time, where is she by the way? still playing Pirates of Penzance?), but we do need to find out if Kass the Dim managed to cause Ch’Thier to vomit in her sleep from a kiss

Thanks
Not all heroes wear capes!
Thanks! I have no idea why these extra large comics are such shit quality now, but it really sucks.
Admin, please fix this image. It is unreadable.
Cheers!
