Chapter: Yet Another Fantasy Gamer Crossover
Characters: Eddy the Mage, Hank, Jone "Half-Orc" WhiteEye, Runtherd "Runt", Scale, Sir Idries of Falconheim
Location: "Eddie's Retreat" the Magic Tower
Scale, Hank, Handler and Gertrude are all visiting us from “Cowboys and Crossovers”
http://cowboysandcrossovers.thecomicseries.com/comics/
Drawn by Ron Bender (Well, when they aren’t being drawn by me, that is…)
………
So, it’s Iries "The Idiot" of Falconheim’s turn to die?
Hank, with his pistol, would have a better ‘shot’ (can’t believe just said that) at defeating Jone "The Jerk", give her a RedEye between her WhiteEye’s
True. And with the odds on that the gun is a single action army the hole it would leave would be quite big.
Yes he is so dead, if not Jone become totaly suprised/distracted by "slimgirls" transformations…..
Eddy, it’s called Magic Missile. If you can sense the target, you can’t miss the target.
True, but MM does relatively low damage: 1d4+1 damage per bolt, with a maximum of 5 bolts per cast. Sure, you can power it up with feats, but the gains are pretty minimal compared to the damage higher level mobs can soak up. And Jone was pretty high up there as a mere mortal. Rich only knows how many hit dice she has now that she’s a divinely powered death knight on steroids.
Point is: it could be used to distract her while Idries drags Scale into the tower
The problem with that is, damage doesn’t cause distraction by normal rules. Even with a bit of fluff to say it does, Jone is most likely in rage mode whenever she attacks. Nothing distracts her.
We’ve seen Jone focus on whoever is attacking her, so being blasted by Magic Missile would have her pause and look around for her attacker, allowing everyone to get in the door.
Which admittedly she’d start hacking at to get to the enemies within.
You’re only limited to 5 under 2nd edition (and beyond). This is a "classic" enough strip to possibly be operating under ad&d 1e world laws…but, yeah point taken. ("I target….the darkness!")
I think those Magic Missiles need to be Tomahawk to have any effect at this point… 😐
How about Disintegrate, then? He may well be powerful enough to cast it, it’s a pretty accurate single-target spell, and if it works then he’s solved the Jone problem forever.
She’d probably just wraith up.
Personally, I’d take the shot with disintegrate, considering it’s pretty hard to miss a touch attack at levels high enough to have the spell, but there’s no question that it’s a chancy move firing down into such tight quarters. If you miss, you either hit the girl (very bad for her) or drop them both into a 10’x10’x10′ hole (still pretty bad). I can understand Eddy not wanting to risk it.
There’s a 50/50 shot of hitting either target in a grapple situation, of which there does seem to be a pin going on right now. Given that the wizard states the "possibility of hitting another target," I’m inclined to believe it is such.
(no reply button on CDTalmas’s comment fro some reason, but this is answering his)
That’s not a grapple, that’s just attacking a prone target. -4 to hit chance for firing into melee, but (under most DMs) no chance of hitting the wrong target unless you roll a natural 1. And that reduced chance could be easily overcome with True Strike.
Of course, Eddy could be suffering the eternal curse of the wizard, and not have Disintegrate OR True Strike prepared today…
Hold Monster. No to-hit roll so no chance of missing even when shooting into a melee, and fighters have terrible will saves. And it's a spell that any high-level wizard really ought to keep one of around, since it's also useful if you need to disable someone *without* killing them in a way that disintegrate isn't. Or Bigby's Crushing Hand, that's another usefully versatile one. The objective isn't to *kill* Jone per se, but to stop her from killing Scale.
Miscolour on the blood or is there something strange going on with that vambrace?
The left bracer is her magic metal skin
Is that liquid armour leaking out of Scale’s left bracer? Given it’s the high tech bracers taking the hits now (why is Jone attacking the only armoured parts of Scale?), strange things may be about to happen.
Bracers of Armor Class can only possibly operate in one of two ways: 1) surround the wearer with an invisible field that provides the specified armor level, or 2) attract incoming blows to themselves, to take the hit in place of other body parts; the armor rating is based on the bracer’s own material strength. These could be the latter sort (call them Bracers of Wonder Woman-ness). Techie liquid nanomachines? Maybe. The only other magic that tends to take that visual form is Chaos magic…
Remember, she was covered in a metal ‘skin’ after the train crash
My poor girl. Gertrude where are you. And Hank is going to be pissed to have been pushed int the tower by some guy in his pajamas.
Shouldn’t that armor react better?
I’d *love* to know what’s going on in Jone’s head.
Okay. Maybe not.
t!
Is it me or is Jone ‘playing’ with her victim ? Not going for the kill shot, just going for as many wounds as possible
She isn’t even doing that. As Owen Smith noted, she seems to be specifically going for those bracers.
To destroy them, seems like.
Seems more, that she saw what happened with the left bracer and wanted to see what would happen if she hit the right
Heh. Looks more like Jone’s playing it smart an taking out stabalizers or something. My first response is ‘.. That’s not right.. Get rid of them!’ Second response would be.. stab her. Stab her now.
Jone was going to be a blacksmith at one point, wasn’t she? Perhaps the odd quality of the bracers are distracting her from the kill.
As far as I’m concerned, any magical effect on armor that saves the wearer’s life is worth it, no matter how they do it!
Who is the monster in this battle?
You calling Scale a monster? Eddy is a senile old git, gRunt is a false King & Idries is an idiot, so you can’t be talking about them
Metamorph = monster
Thought she just had magic armour
Scale has two bracers. One is her liquid armor. It was a gift from Wheels Ironkeel during the crossover wars. Her other bracer she always had. It allows her to focus her natural power to jump between realms. It’s a navigation tool. She jumps blind without it.
THanks!
Oh, that could mean trouble if the group was depending on her for the next jump.
How soon did you want your people back? 😛
I’m afraid the question is most likely: "in how many pieces do we want them back?"… :-/
Sooooo…
There’s a small chance that since Scale really doesn’t want to be where she is and her dimensional compass just got smacked, that she is going to realmshift… possibly with Jone along for the ride?
Poor whatever world they end up in…
Unless it’s a world that Jone can’t continue to exist in and she just drops over dead upon arrival.
Ian over at ALMH (formerly PH) would make an excellent "surprise" jump for dealing with Jone… I just wonder if Hogan is going to show up with his axe afterwards…
Please don’t use ungoogleable acronyms outside forums where everybody knows them. Thank you.
Whoops sorry about that! i mean " A little more Humiliation" by rmcool over at the duck webcomics which is the continuation of his comic "Public Humiliation"

Except for special circumstances Scale can only shift herself and maybe a small back pack. I also assume she needs to concentrate at least a little bit. Being badly injured in pain and terrified might be distracting. Just saying.
– "By the gods, it’s JONE! She’s got that young woman!"
– "Help her!"
– "Jone doesn’t need my help."
– "Oh, Eddie… you do crack me up, you do!"
