Let me see if I can follow this… Niko (the Duchess, under the current regime) gets Flannet declared Baroness of Greyfort (her title to give, for the moment) in order to transfer the curse as it prefers Baron/esses of Greyfort to any other title, though it will transfer if that title is not occupied (no carrots for her). Then she forces Flannet to marry Niko (also probably within her rights as a Duchess under feudal laws) in the hopes of gaining the "benefits" of being the spouse of the Baron/ess, without herself being one. Which should result in Flannet not being able to eat carrots, and Niko dying horribly. This has the dual added benefits that (once Lucas and her son are back) as long as she lives and has the title, Cadugan should be safe from the curse, and she can legitimately take over in an emergency if Duke Lucas is not available. Yeah, she won’t be able to marry again, but given her age, and two mostly grown kids, she probably hadn’t really intended to anyway, and I am sure she would gladly sacrifice that to protect her son. Works out as a win for the good-guys all around. Now lets just hope they can pull it off.
Also, if Flannet has to fake the beginnings of dying horribly from the curse, all they have to do is feed her carrots.
In addition to All The Above, the chances of Flannet ending up as a werewolf just increased dramatically, by intention or by accident.
Bonus: The Duchess of Greyfort (specifically Nikko) marrying the Baroness of Greyfort (specifically Flannet) has the makings for one of the craziest honeymoons of all time. These are the days when I wish there could be a YAFGC-XXX edition side story.
Trusting ghosts. Ever. It’s not even malice … they just have so much time on their hands that they get very, VERY bored. Just before turning completely insane. And becoming even more bored.
She does hate Cadugan (those wolfsbane arrows…), but mostly, Lucas and Cadugan are not available right now, and she is given to understand that without a Barron/ess of Greyfort, she as Duchess will inherit the curse. So she needs someone to fob it off on right quick, and the thought of using Cadugan’s mother for that likely amused her.
If you were a fugitive werewolf on the run for abduction, murder, and high treason for most of your life, you probably wouldn’t have a lot of time to catch up on local history and fact check a curse only known by the family of the baron/baroness. Especially if you were just told by a supernatural force that the title you just picked up is accompanied by inescapable death, and a magnificent fortune that would befall the cursed’s partner in marriage.
I just thought of an added bonus to Flannet becoming Baroness… the barons/baronesses can see the ghosts, who likely want Niko out of the Castle as much as Flannet does. Giving them someone to plot the recovery of Greyfort from Rannite hands with.
The faces in panel 3 are priceless, especially the Mistress.
Heh, not a morning person…

Fanfic exists for a reason. Go write it. 😀

Hah, knew Baron "drop 3 coins in my box" Baron would be in on the scheme. Wouldn’t be surprised if he thought the whole plan up.
Given Ch’Thier’s reaction in the last panel of http://yafgc.net/comic/0807-rules-lawyer-at-play/ , I think the whole family has a bit of a reputation.
Why does she pick Flannet? Didnt she kidnapp Lucas to mate with? Is it that she hates Cadogan?

So Niko is falling for it.
I’m surprised she didn’t see right through it.

(I think t! was making a ghost joke.) 😀
Guess I’m bad at puns.
How well you know me.

Now i feel dumb. Well played t!
Yeah, ghosts can be quite clever at hiding their motivations. Sometimes it’s hard to see where they’re coming from.
The ghosts certainly seem to be in high spirits
Be careful when a stranger offers you "free" gift and rewards. Be EXTRA carfull then its a relative to a person whose life you destroyed….
I gess its villan greed…..

Grim-grinning ghosts anyone?
This is going to all end in tears, I just know it.
…And carrots. Lots & lots of carrots…
Speaking of which, do you think parsnips are okay?
I love the chortling ghosts in the last panel.
"It’s called a hustle, honey." And you just been hustled by a ghost!
