I know.
You’ve always written this strip from a position of empathy, letting the characters dictate the story’s direction rather than the other way around.
When writers talk of the story and/or characters taking over from them, it’s because they’ve been using this approach (rather than some paint-by-numbers Robert McKee thing).
That’s where the surprises happen. Plus it feels natural. AND it accounts for that balance Rancourt’s talking about below.
t!
Heh. As someone who has dabbled in storywriting, I know the feeling.
Sometimes these characters just do whatever they want, and you’re just left facepalming at their actions as you hurry up to catch up with them and write it all down.
One of the most amazing things about Rich, as a director, is his very characteristic, nuanced balance of humor and gravity, in tone. It’s inimitable; no one does it quite like he does, and I’m not sure that anyone could walk the line between these contrasting thematic elements with the sureness of footing that he does. It’s been absolutely amazing to see him play with characters, situations and ideas that once bore a few of my fingerprints — my name may have been featured on the chapter frontispiece, but this is his world, his story, and his expression of the ideas we exchanged. It’s been amazing; I genuinely don’t always know what’s coming next, and I’m delightedly shuttling back and forth between elements I think I know, and elements I thought I knew, but through his vision, managing to surprise me again. There’s a great deal in this chapter so far that was completely new to me, and…let it suffice to say that I’ve known C’rhynne and Leland very, very well, for decades.
Let it suffice to say that, if you ever have the opportunity to work with Rich on absolutely anything — do! It’s the chance of a lifetime.
I’m… speechless with humbled flattery. I’ve never considered myself particularly brilliant in anything. Sufficiently talented at best. These words do me much honour and just to have seen them written about me… well, it really humbles a guy. Thank you. I hope I continue to live up to these levels of praise.
Well, *those* two have hit it off.

Who knew? I didn’t! I’m as surprised as anyone else!

Now let’s start hitting *them* until the music stops. 😛
But only when the sword is very short and the pen is very sharp 🙂
Still haven’t seen a Kobold. There’s hope yet!
Abandon all hope ye who enter here!
This storyline is making me irrationally happy so far.
Forget the gloom and doom outside. Let’s just stay in the library for a while where it’s all quirky and happy.
Seriously, I love this.

And now you’re doomed. Yup, no less than a masterpiece shall be satisfactory from here on out. We shall hold you hostage through expectations.
Seriously though, this whole webcomic has been pretty awesome.
Oh. Dear. God.
Everybody’s DOOOMMED!! Ranna, look out. The SuperDork Twins are gunning for your ass. If you beg for mercy, it will only make them stronger.
And that’s when Glon Half-Orc became known as Glon Full-Dork.
I love this. I love how quickly and easily Glon makes friends. 🙂
Me too, this page made me smile.
Should we all end up in the same RL space someday, this is EXACTLY how it’s going to play out. ?
I certainly suspect it will! Hahah 🙂 And here’s to hoping we’ll find out sometime.
Gotta say, though, YAFGCon doesn’t exactly trip off the tongue.
It does if you pronounce it "YAFF-gick-con." and it’s even funnier if you remember it would stand for "Yet Another Fantasy Gamer Convention."
I’d have to admit that it doesn’t quite roll off the tongue smoothly, but "tripping" seems to be pretty accurate.
😀
Glon: Did we just become best friends?
Leland: Yup!
SNL Sean Connery: "I’ll take ‘The P***s Mightier’ for $1000, Trebek."
It’s not for sale!
Instant friendship.
You have no idea of the *power* of the Dork Side…
