My question is, was she ambitious on her own (or even one of her following "on her behalf") or did someone else try to use her as a pawn and thus smoothed out her path to the throne?

Little side note: the word you want to use in panel four is "confidant". "Confident" means self-assured, "confidant" means a person you trust.
