Given how this story is going, I’m wondering if Rich designed panel 3 on that page to deliberately mislead us into thinking Halvelock was impatient, but that he’s actually the compassionate one. It remains to be seen…
I think the "Horrible" is very, very subjective and taken from an orc nativist perspective. It does, however, seem that he was the Echnaton of his culture: attempted to push too radical a change in the culture, and instead a counterrevolution wiped out all changes and made him reviled.
One detail I kinda like is the elder orc in Panel 3, with the terrier-like moustache. And the other is the hinting that what orcs consider "Magnificent" or "Horrible" may be for different reasons that what we dear readers expect. Nice touches!
Maybe like owen he had an affair with a human noblewoman and the baby got send to the orcs this time instead of the humans and rohal had enough power to keep him safe.
3rd orc in panel 3 is *probably* just wearing some kind of tall hat/hood combination… but at the edge of the frame as s/he is, it mostly looks like they’re squeezing their face through a rubbery membrane.
So, is our good half orc a sort of reincarnation of halvelock?
Not exactly…a bit more complicated
…Where did the Prince’s hat come from?
We’ve seen him in it before, or a similar one. That page where Gruuumsh is explaining his other attempts.

(First time I realized there were 3 Us in his name)
Oh, okay, now I see the resemblance.

I believe that is exactly what Rich did. Havelock was definitely the one listed as "too compassionate," but I think we weren’t supposed to notice.
Wait, what? I always thought there were two…
Is his name Firefist or Firefish? He’s listed as fish in the Character list, but Fist in the comic. 😛
3151 hes inherited the throne
3152 hes a prince
im confused did we go back in time again?
"…during the reign of the previous King "Rohal the Magnificient".
Glon, sporting a fedora, WHEN??! This is Thing that must happen. Eventually. So we can laugh at him and never let him forget it for all of forever.
That’s Halvelock, another half orc.
Uuuummmm. Yes. Maybe read the comment a bit more carefully? k’thx.
I’m sorry, I find the comment unreadable and thought you meant that was Glon.
I’m with you; that’s what I thought they meant when I first read their comment.
I am starting to wonder if King Halvelock the Horrible was given a bum rap.

Akhenaten?
Yep. Since his name does not have a settled Latin spelling, there are many variances.
From the beginning of the Wikipedia article: "Akhenaten (/ˌækəˈnɑːtən/; also spelled Echnaton, Akhenaton, Ikhnaton, and Khuenaten…"
Interesting. I’ve never seen Echnaton or Khuenaten before, and Ikhnaton only once or twice. Wonder if those usages are more common outside the US?
They are older spellings, mainly. I have never seen Echnaton anywhere before, but I am familiar with all the rest.
Echnaton is mostly in use in Germany and perhaps other European countries.

Yeah, there’s a lot of great, varied facial hair going on in this strip.
t!
Halvelock doesn’t take much after his father then?
For the love of all the gods, Glon, do not grow a scraggly beard.
Huh. So was he the king’s bastard, or did the king have a human wife?
Maybe like owen he had an affair with a human noblewoman and the baby got send to the orcs this time instead of the humans and rohal had enough power to keep him safe.
The resemblance between Prince Halvelock and Glon is uncanny! Is it a case of "You look like your ancestors" as in the Back to the Future movies?
Antroth’s nose is a thing of awe and wonder. It helps bring this sense of… quiet dignity to him, that one doesn’t usually associate with orcs.
Well done. 🙂
Oh no he looks so sad 🙁
