🙂
Although actually that was Happy Days, when the Fonz jumped a shark on a motorcycle. It was generally agreed that the show went downhill from there, although to be honest it had started the decline before then, it was just that silly scene clearly marked the show as being in decline.
Not quite, Fonzie jumped the shark on water skies, while wearing his leather jacket under his lifejacket (because the audience wouldn’t have been able to tell it was him without the jacket… )
It’s less about the used weapon and more about prevalent technology. Cannons are rare. Only after firearms get common you get the association between fire and firing.
Doesn’t change the fact that specifically here the "fire" doesn’t seem to be the correct one.
I happen to agree. It <S>really</S> slightly annoyed me watching Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers when one character correctly yelled "LOOSE" and <I>moments later</I> another yelled "FIRE".
Now I have the image of the Barbarian waiting on a giant crossbow, ready for the order to fire.
Kinda like the orcs on catapults in the pre-launch (‘launch’, get it?) WAR video
No idiot…don’t jump at the shark in the air…
I suspect he’s survived worse.
Behold, the person who invented the phrase, "jumping the shark."
🙂

Ah sorry, my mistake. Been a VERY long time. More than a few of the readers of this comic wouldn’t have even been born when that originally aired.
And yeah, that just makes it sillier.
It _was_ a long time ago, easy to forget details 😀
Be that as it may, isn’t this comic set in a time period way, way *before* Happy Days?…
?
I…
Hm.
I…
Ya know what, you have me there. 😉
No.
Fonz used the normal mode for water-skying… being towed by a boat.
And ‘happy Days’ was already going downhill at a blistering pace.
That is how the saying got started, tho
Minor nitpick: the proper command for bows and crossbows is "Loose". "Fire" is for firearms and cannons.
Not that pirates/privateers would care much for military protocol.
Ah, but does *she* know that?
She is a ‘new recruit,’ after all.
t!

Flip. HTML doesn’t work. There is no "edit" button.
*grumbles*
How many of the general masses (washed or unwashed) would understand what ‘Loose’ meant as opposed to ‘Fire’?
He forgot his anti-gravity suit. No wait… wrong genre 😛
But the Sky Sharks are cute!
Until one takes out your knee
Cute at a distance?
Here’s another cute flying shark

You probably wouldn’t want to be as close to it as the photographer apparently was but since this is just a photo, we can still say it’s cute.
Can we be sure that that is real? o_O
Yup, it’s real. Great Whites really do breach at prey.

Wasn’t disputing the action, was doubting the validity of that particular image
Okay, but will he actually reach one of the sharks?
Then again, no way he’d just plummet right after his introduction……………… actually, in this comic, he very well COULD.
You saying he’s going to leave an impression? o_O
One way or another, yes.
I sure hope Zac didn’t forget the "Aim"-part… 😮
What is that leafy looking thing on Caelin’s back in the first panel?
It’s the feather that he wears in the band that holds his ponytail.
Just as well he doesn’t wear a cap… >.>
I like how Levena’s sabre lines up perfectly with the bottom of the sail. The synchronicity of war.
That should be "Shoot!" as far as arrows are concerned, not "Fire!"
"Fire!" is for firewarms.
I think the old command was actually "loose!" to shoot arrows. You’re basically letting go of the drawn bowstring, after all, "releasing" the arrows.
