3222 13 Years Of YAFGC And 1154 Years Of Naomi
on May 29, 2019
Chapter: Force of Hobbits
Happy Anniversary YAFGC!
If you click the ‘first’ button the nav-bar you’ll see that strip 0001 is dated “May 28 2006” but that is because at some point when I was putting up the archives on this site (after we left the old site) I must have made a dating error somewhere. Correcting it would mean /another/ few weeks of clicking through 3222 strips checking and fixing the dates until I found where the problem is but y’know what? I don’t care right now. The REAL date of the first strip was “May 29 2006” and you’ll just have to take my word for it.
So HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
13 glorious years!
Thank you all for reading.
-Rich
Thank you for 13 years of laughs and entertainment Rich.
The foxes costume has evolved over time, I see.
Happy anniversary! Thank you so much for thirteen amazing years of YAFGC.
And thank YOU for Panel 11.
t!
Good catch, t!, and thank you for pointing that out. And thank you, little librarian, for writing that book. 🙂
Trevor would surely tut and insist that all truly worthy things are mostly Leland and/or C’rhynne, but he’s happy to "shed a little" in the margin notes, if prompted.
I’m not sure I believe him here, though. This tome tastes of exhaustive, iterative generation documentation, and when we’re talking about enthusiastic recounting of "the begats," that’s very much Trevor’s influence at work. If it tastes like The Hobbit (and I mean that emphatically as a compliment), it’s Leland. If it tastes like The Silmarillion, it’s Trevor.
Happy Anniversary!!
I think Rich is winding us up by making the Fox seem older and older without telling us his or her age. Even leaving the Fox out of the list of ages of all characters. It’s emotional blackmail – I tell ya!!!
Happy anniversary everyone 😀
Didn’t I?????
I can’t find that age list now…
As I understand and think has been mentioned before, the Fox is a series of people, and I remember the latest one, Shawn of Shallmar (who is listed as a different cast character when not in disguise), was listed with some humanly normal age.
This is a theory I posted as well, but nobody replied to confirm or offer an alternative, so I just assumed it was too wrong to warrant a reply.
And it can’t be a coincidence that the rabbit emblem on the halfling war banner is reflected in Feddick’s rug on panel 7.
I sense a waskally wabbit… no idea what that means lol.
There are images of that rabbit ALL through YAFGC. It means something.
High fertility? That is part of the reason we have the Easter Bunny.
Small hint: look for strips with Ch’Thier or with her followers. 😉
It’s a bunny with a single horn, a bunicorn if you want. These creatures are called the al-mi’raj, and come from Arab mythology; and they’ve been in D&D since the original Fiend Folio.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-mi%27raj
If I remember correctly, in YAFGC, they are Ch’tier’s holy animal. It’s also interesting to note that they’re creatures that seem innocuous but are actually extremely dangerous, as they are very quick and skilled in the art of impaling much larger creatures with their horns. Basically, they’re vorpal bunnies like in Monty Python’s Holy Grail.
Happy anniversary! Thank you for 13 years of imagination, adventure and sometimes high emotions!
Happy anniversary to you too. Thabk you too much for this great webcomic, and for other 13 years!!
Happy anniversary. YAFGC is a teenager in RL and an old and wise grandparent in internet terms 🙂
Can’t wait to read onward for the next couple of decades 😀
Thank you, Rich
Happy Anniversary! What a wonderful and fun filled 13 years it has been
Happy Anniversary!
And whoa, what a surprise reveal! …still gonna wait for his reasoning, though.
Most hobbits sure are slow with updates regarding current news & Happy Anniversary to YAFGC!
Happy Anniversary!
Yes, Happy Anniversary!
And really , we shall thank you!
Happy anniversary, and may I say that I love the implied relationship between Naomi and the Fox. He looks like a goofy, over-eager hero come to save the day, while she is rolling her eyes: "Oh, no. Not this guy again."
Or maybe it looks like a sibling thing.
Huh. So is the Fox a Dread Pirate Roberts type persona where the title is passed from one person to another? Shawn doesn’t look that old.
Or possibly a pest with a time machine?
Happy anniversary, Rich, and thanks for all the great entertainment and food for thought.
Awesome ! I look forward to at least another 13 years ! Keep up the great work Rich !
Happy Anniversary! Many, many thanks, Rich, for 13 years of excellent entertainment and storytelling. Marking this anniversary with so much detail and history of the YAFGC world was perfect. I’m eagerly looking forward to seeing where things go for the next 13 years and many more.
Congratulations, fantastic accomplishment, great story and sharp aet.
By the way, it’s great to see Trevor and Leland’s names on the Big Book o’ CoN Facts. KITTY!!!
Thanks for all this, Rich. You bring much enjoyment to all of us!
13 years of awesomeness on YAFGC!
And, I have to admit, when I saw the strip when it first loaded before reading, my brain transliterated "RUUN!!!" as "RUNN!!!".
Completely understandable reaction . 😉
Thank you for such a great 13 years of entertainment.
Thank you! (I had that reaction myself after I added the proper lettering.)
Happy Anniversary! Great comic. I’ve been reading for 11 years now.
happy anniversary rich. :3 thanks for the great comic.
Congratulations on 13 years!! And thank you so much for all of the fun! I didn’t start reading until you were about 2 years in (saw a link on another site). Your series is one of the six I am loyal to, because you are an amazing storyteller!!
*hands you a starfish jelly sandwich before toddling off to look at pictures of my Boo, Cap’n Fang*
Oooooh! There’s a pickle on the moon y’know. Right under the box of pommel screws.
Thank you so much! (Enjoys sandwich)
Happy anniversary and that this fantastic webcomic endure a long time. We all know it´s not only yet another fantasy gamer webcomic 😀
I still wish I’d come up with a better title, but…. ah well, it’s 13 years too late now.
Well, to naysayers on when the first strip was published, May 29, 2006 was a Monday, ie, on the comic’s schedule.
Congratulations.
It WAS a Monday! Thanks for that! And for the first 6 years it updated every single day. Every. Single. Day. I couldn’t keep up with it once both kids needed more constant supervision and attention so after a little break it came back on a not-as-reliable 3 day week schedule. But those were a glorious 6 years.
I remember with fondness the banner updates on Live Journal…
Just want to say that this strip is such an excellent exposition. Having written some stories myself I always struggled with convincing sounding names and places. This is absolutely stop on – top notch 🙂
13 years ! Lucky for the readers !
Thanks for 13 years of dedication! Though i suspect there may have been more time in your head before first publication?
Actually hanging out in YAFGC world is like a little vacation for me. I can spend 8 hours at the studio grinding out storyboards of little cute furry animals or pre-teen kid adventures but when I get home I can relax by drawing my half-orcs and silly nobles being witty or dramatic. It has happened where I’ve spent 12 hours in a day drawing. Not often, mind you, but it has happened… back in the pre-children days…
We all did a lot more pre-children!
Happy Anniversary!
Sooo, he tried to protect Naomi from her fate? How would original Naomi react to that?
Happy Anniversary! The comic just keeps getting better.
Adding numbers together here, I am a bit surprised that the Age of Legends was that recent, with the start no more than about 2800 years ago. I’ve been thinking of it (and the twin goddesses) like a combined First Age/creation myth, but I guess it’s not then. Lewie and Arachne
might be old enough to have been born before the end of it, or shortly after.
I think there’s been some implication that the world is actually way older, like back when Meegs explained the dinosaurs.
The world of YAFGC is much older than the twin goddesses. The creation story is, naturally, the beginning of the 1st age, but the twins are born in the very beginning of the 5th age, "The Age of Legends" (Feddick is working from a condensed history of the Ages).
Thank you for all the kind words and well wishes! YAFGC has been a joy to work on and you have been a joy to hear from. Many more adventures are in my head, as long as my body and mind can keep up, there will always be a YAFGC.
13 years? Congratulations! I’ve only been here for about 9, but even that amazes me. Most of the other web comics I read are long gone, but YAFGC is still here and remains fresh and interesting.
Happy 13-and-a-day, Many More!
Happy Anniversary! I’ve been a steady reader from the very beginning – and am still amazed at the period of time when YAFGC and Rich’s Comixblog updated together.
Happy happy joy joy! Now let’s go smash us an evil goddess! <3
Happy anniversary to Glon, Lucas, Cadugan, Arachne (maybe? It was a soul-binding dagger…), Wolf, Gren, Bob, Mrs. Bloodhand, Lewie, the Chimera and the other former Monsters of Black Mountain, as well as Turg and the Sphynx. Oh, and all the humans/elves.
Yay, for the birthday of the comic!
I started to read this 12 years ago, 2007. Rich has just drawn strip where hyeesha ladies lost their heads. SO many awesome stories followed after. May there be many many more.
Thank you for enriching our lives.
