Both those scenarios ran through my mind upon reading this.
i don’t know which to believe.
I’m hopeful, but, every now and again a merry comic like this one has some real drama and consequences.
*fingers crossed*
This is truly an amazing, probably the best, comic. I love how many characters this comic has and yet it never really feels bloated. Especially with the number of plot lines going on at once.
I wonder if we’ll see other old characters pop in, like Adwen. Also, not a gorgon too? Not the first Rannite non-snake leader, but they’re certainly rare, and in such a high position. I’m hoping for a (short) exposition here.
For all we know, this might be an old skeleton with a wig.
It’s not like all gorgons in the comic were running around with snakes jutting out of their hair (Meegs is the obvious example), so we don’t know if Vivay isn’t a gorgon. And we don’t know if wyverns can be made into gorgons, either.
True, there’s been 2 gorgons with hair (Malyss’s lieutenant as well), but they both had eye coverings. While Vivay MIGHT be okay with stoning everyone, it’s atypical for Rannites. As far as Wyvern, pretty sure she polymorphed INTO one as she only used the form to escape rather than that being her natural form. Finally, she DID have a human family once upon a time.
Still missing Alaria, which I pointed out there last year.
(I half guess that even you as the site owner may not have a reliable way to notice when old comics have had new comments… it seems to me this is a common annoyance with comments-in-same-page systems compared to the old BB style ones.)
Awl is one of the children of Turg (the Minotaur) and the Sphynx of Temshutep. Because of magic and weird interbreeding, the Sphynxetaurs show random characteristics of their parents being some combination of Human, bull, eagle and lion. Awl just happened to get all eagle characteristics. But his siblings are much weirder.
Wait a second. Aren’t those the symbols of the evangelists? Matthew (human/angel), Mark (lion), Luke (bull), and John (eagle)? What’s really going on here?
Is Turg’s family going to be the foundation of the new age?
Lots of new recruits. They were kidnapping and brainwashing people even before Ranna made her move, and they stepped up their recruitment drive dramatically at the start of the full-scale war. They seem to use a combination of divine magic, alchemy, and standard brainwashing techniques, and we’ve only seen them fail in extreme cases (such as trying to break Maula Bloodhand.)
Meegs, by contrast, folded faster than any recruit on record. 😉
They were my favorite minions when I was playing Dungeon Keeper and Dungeon Keeper 2. I would populate dungeons until I could start recruiting Dark Mistresses and then just kill off all the others. Would end up with dungeons populated by nothing but Mistresses, ghosts, skeletons and chickens.
It’s how you keep your minions fed (he said, ruining the mystique). You put a chicken coop in one of the rooms and chickens hatch and wander about. When minions get hungry they snatch up a chicken and eat it.
There’s also a magic spell that allows you to turn a minion or an enemy into a chicken for a while. During which time a minion may eat them.
Aww, Vivay *is* with the Rannites? I had hoped that she wasn't, *all* of the "bad" evil characters throwing in with Ranna is kind of boring. It looked to me like during the chaos of the Rannite attack, she had spirited Alaria away for her own nefarious purposes.
That’s not good….
Alaira’s name isn’t listed among the characters appearing, which is a hopeful sign that it isn’t her in that cell.
Alternatively, it could mean that Alaria is no more…

Did exactly the same. Check names – Yay! Ahhh but…. Booo!
As Runt’s head briefly turns into a sucker.
uh oh. hope he has a plan b. and i love the worried face on awl 🙂
Lady Vivay! The Rannites have a real knack for luring all the old schemers back into play.
Incidentally, wasn’t Lady Vivay a blonde?
She was while she was "in disguise" as Sir Aeden’s wife. But if you look waaaay back to her original appearance, she had black hair.
Wow, so she did! They say the memory is the…something.
Richard keeps notes. He HAS to.
And someday, I would LOVE to see them.

(hint)
Next time we visit I’ll bring my YAFGC Silmarillion thumb drive.
*ahem*
Squee.
t!
But it’s the organization of those notes that must be spectacular!
If that skeleton could facepalm, it would.
I think the skeleton is not undead, just dead.
Sure. If it were undead, it COULD facepalm.
surely a skeleton instead would Skullmetacarpal?
Or just "bone" ?
So, the Fox didn’t get her. Interesting.

Called it!
Nicely foreshadowed in 2840! (which probably should have Vivay tagged, but it doesn’t).
!!! Doesn’t it??? (Goes back to check/fix that)
(EDIT) Okay fixed. Thanks for the catch.

Well yes, I do actually. But I don’t always check it. The ‘comments’ section of the admin dashboard lists comments from newest to oldest.
[EDIT] FIXED!
What’s a "Sphynxetaur" and why does it look so much like a giant bird?

Holy crap. I didn’t know that.
Trust Miseri, eh?

new nickname for Runt:
King Useless of Fucksitup.
just hold a new tournament already, saves trouble in the long run.
No need to. The usurper here will be dealt with and the one true king *will* sit on the throne.
So where is Captain Fang again?
Runtherd’s castle has been renamed. It’s now called "The Bates Motel."
*Hands T-Chall the internet*
You win!
I want to thank the Academy and all the little people who made this possible. The halflings. The dwarves. The pixies. The sprites…
Don’t forget the net-trolls! On the screen they like to seem big, but in reality they are really, really small. 😉
How many Dark Mistresses are there? Did they all arrive with the Keeper or are there new recruits? Seems to be a lot of them.
Lots of new recruits. They were kidnapping and brainwashing people even before Ranna made her move, and they stepped up their recruitment drive dramatically at the start of the full-scale war. Never having played the games, I would ask why there were chickens…but it’s more surreal with no context whatsoever. 🙂

So it turns out that the obvious trap was actually an obvious trap, surprising no one except Runtherd.
Yep. Like the bumper sticker says:
"Good decisions come from experience.
Experience comes from bad decisions."
The youngster is learning he’s still in the earlier part of this cycle.
t!
Lewie looks good in drag. XD
Best laid plans and all that.
