Chapter: Finding Alaria
Characters: King of Lanly, Lady Vivay of the Duchy of Pentine, Princess Alaria of Lanly, Runtherd "Runt", Thomas the Bard, Zill the Dark Mistress
Location: Castle Elegrost, Castle Lanly
I forgot a rather important final panel of this comic. My apologies.
Wow Vivay is incredibly evil. A bit too smug, but I approve!
And she always looks so friendly and pleasant while evil-doing.
It’s important to love your job.
t!
Her expression and body language on panel 3 is amazing!
Also panel 5. I really love how she’s playing with Runt.
Zill is gonna get punished.
Sorry, your Princess is not in this chamber! ?
D’oh!
i do not want to switch with Zill. The punishment will be severe.
she can just follow her and run off.
Yeah, it could get ugly.

Of course the fact its probably not her fault won’t make the slightest difference as to wether she gets punished or not.
Team Evil , looking for short sighted minions since time began
So we’ve traded one problem for another. Le sigh.
Alaria, you rock! Well done, Princess!
Runtherd, Your Majesty, you are a fine figure of a man. Though I would rather have seen you in your current "attire" in a much more pleasant situation. 😉
Kudos to Rich for that angle!
t!
Yes, kudos indeed to Rich, and many thanks.
" … to confuse me."
Wow, it is so painful to see how badly out of his element Runt is.
t!
Oh, phew! The skeleton wasn’t the Princess, merely a slave! What a relief.
The sad part being, now she is no longer in need of rescue… but he is. I don’t suppose she might rescue him?
Well, SOMEBODY has to.
I’m thinking a team-up between Alaria and Awl. "You’ve got the brains. I’ve got the wings. Runt’s got…the divine mandate to rule?"
("Oh yeah. Fang’s got that.")
Oops, well that’s embarrassing.
@Eolhin: One can certainly hope so, reversing the Damsel in Distress trope is always fun!
Well, given new information, perhaps one of Turg’s more humanoid female children will rescue him, and become his queen? You never know.
The moral of the story is never leave bedsheets in whatever room you’re confining the prisoners to, even the royal ones.
The bedsheets, and even the open window, may not have been the problem. Perhaps the busted manacle is the bit that Zill was really not expecting.
Oh wow! Now this make things even more complicated, not to mention quite a twist with the rescue by Thomas. It’s good to see him again, by the way.
The only thing now is that Turg and one of his children get to Runtherd’s castle soon!
Well, that is good for Alaria and very good for Thomas, who has evidently turned her affections with his timely rescue, but rather bad for Runtherd on all fronts. To be fair, they were likely long gone before Runtherd got there. But now he is the captive of Rannites who are grumpy because their leverage has escaped, and he really has lost his love, if in a way that is much better for her then the alternative. Even if he gets rescued, this is going to be hard on him.
Runtherd really is unlucky in the love department. That’s 0 for 4? 5? Is it bad that I’m hoping that he bumps into (and trys again) with Hogga now? We’ll have so see how things work out for Thomas and Alaria.
To me it seems that Runt still has some more growing up to do before he could win Hogga’s heart. But if he manages that, I would be happy both for the couple themselves — Hogga and Runt are both overdue for some happiness — and for what their alliance would bring to the fight against Ranna, and rebuilding a better world in her wake.
Is that final panel regret on the can of worms you’ve now opened?
Not sure quite what you mean by that. But the panel is actually supposed to be part of the full strip. I drew it at the same time. It’s not something I scribbled together /after/ reading comments.
As a matter of strict fact, that is something I have never -and never will- do. I put them up as I wrote them. I don’t change things after sensing a reaction. Case in point: The snake-lady. I could have resurrected her at any time after all the flack I got for it. But I didn’t. (I’m not aiming this at you, Aaron Lowe, I’m just pointing out a policy that has been in effect since the day I decided to publish this comic online.) Snake-lady was meant to die in that strip and she did.
So you can trust me that when I say ‘oops, I forgot a bit’, I actually did forget a bit. I’m not being ractionary and regret does not dictate my stories. All that happens is I bitch myself out for coming up with a better idea after I’ve already posted it. Because another rule of YAFGC is, never go back and change it once it’s done.
Are you talking about the snake-lady who Sahar carbonized in the desert? If so, I didn’t know people had been rooting for her to survive, but I do agree that keeping her dead made for a stronger story. The fact that I still remember what Sahar did to that poor (albeit undeniably evil) nope-rope just goes to show how effectively the scene established her as one priestess whose wrath you would never want to provoke.
Yea I remember that a lot of people liked her, called her Rattles. I was lightly rooting for her to survive, but much more interesting characters have died and we’ve moved on. I love this comic, it’s like a not terrible version of Game of Thrones. Yes, bad things happen to much (and much less) beloved characters, but it’s not because it’s just a awful world. Rich isn’t trying to torture us, he just makes a truly epic story.
You mean Cerasta the Snake Lady in https://yafgc.net/comic/1515-this-means-war/ ?
…. wait, we lost some comments from when it was first on, didn’t we?
I think I just got confused about the chronological order.
3264 1/2 ̶S̶h̶u̶t̶ ̶T̶h̶e̶ ̶B̶a̶c̶k̶ ̶D̶o̶o̶r̶!̶ ̶ Princess Alaria Can’t Lose.
Alaria and Thomas both look so happy in that last panel. Hoping Runt will get a break someday, but clearly here the better man won.
Oh SHEET!!!!
Holy sheet!
Well, sometimes you’ve just got to let your hair down, and failing that…
I just saw that final panel and I’m just… GOD DAMN IT THOMAS, LET RUNT HAVE SOME HAPPINESS TOO
Poor Runt!!! I really feel for him! I know he will find love!
Well that is rather convenient timing, isn't it? Thomas rescues her just as Runtherd arrives to do the same?
And I don't really get Vivay's motivations, she seemed too ambitious to want to be a Rannite stooge.
