This dimly reminds me of the Black and White Guardians when they were in The Ten Doctors. Is Eccleston going to show up in the CARDIS to sort them out? lol
I don’t know, but I’m glad someone is. It was bugging me too, to hear Ch’Their writing off all the suffering Ranna has caused as a harmless blip in the cosmic Balance…
I could see it being Lewie, or Glon, but my guess would be Eddy, and the mages are about ready to spring that trap, having decided they can get along just fine without the gods. I believe it was Worf that said "Our gods are dead. Ancient Klingon warriors slew them a millennia ago. They were more trouble than they were worth."
Heck, from that angle it could be Kurassa, thinking he finally has his opportunity to be the new god of all, his hunger for power was always greater than his wisdom. Which in turn triggers the trap, removing magic from the world.
And you gotta love Worf’s explanation of the myth surrounding how Klingons became a secular monoculture, though I suspect the truth is that the different religions and sects eventually cancelled each other out, leaving only ritual behind and a need to explain why there were no gods any more.
There a few who it could be. Glon and Lewis have the right attitude, but I don’t see them being up in the clouds when the were recently on the ground (and Lewis is probably still focussed on recent matters of the (acquisition of) flesh. And while Lolth and a few others would make sense, for this werkend clifffhanger the arrival of…
ARE they in the clouds? (Well, their heads kind of are, because they’re tall, but people on the ground can still talk to them.)
My impression was that Ch’Their had landed on the ground to help Ranna to her feet. The cloudy stuff in the background of todays panels and surrounding them in the last strip, I took to be dust clouds kicked up by the recent battle.
Aaaargh – who’s speaking there? I mean I’m pretty sure it can’t be my own character Amber on account of no one here ever having heard of her and her existing solely in another rpg world but it WOULD be in character for her not to keep her mouth shut (in the presence of what she perceives as bullshit OR gods).
1) It ends well, with the Goddesses realizing the smaller scale matters.
2) This is all a distraction for the banishing spell to hit/a final "FU" before it hits both of them.
3) The Goddesses both deciding "Y’know, maybe we should just carpet bomb and start everything over together. These jerks don’t deserve salvation if they can’t understand the bigger picture."
It is all the point of view.
From the point of an immortal godess this speech makes brilliant sense.
Even from the point of view of an outsider, this sounds reasonable.
But from the point of view of a mortal soul, the pawn in the eternal struggle, this is pure and disgusting crap. It doesn´t matter to me, if the balance will change to good in 100 years. I live now and i want "good" now, not somewhere in the ages of my grand-grandchildren.
I’m having my doubts about it being Lewie. Why would someone who was in pure joy moments before challenge the God that gifted it to them? Doesn’t even fit his character, which is normally, hard-done-by, not, ungrateful-soab.
What I’m impressed with the most is that, just when it seemed the resolution is set, the end around the corner for this chapter, BK twists our expectations yet again. Amazing job 🙂
All that stuff about "good and evil cannot exist without each other"… does that apply LITERALLY to her and her sister? Because if so… it would explain why she doesn’t want to kill her. But it also means that you only need to successfully kill ONE of them…
"who said that? which one of y’all damn mother fuckers just said that shit? was it you string bean, you skinny ass lookin mother fucker? turn around and say it again. turn around and say it again. tuuurn round, say it again!"
Theologians have slaved over the Problem of Evil for centuries.
As a child I came up with the idea that if evil did not exist, we would not recognize good.
There’s also the "overton window" view of evil. Take the most evil act you can think of, and imagine a world in which it is magically impossible to commit or even think of this act. Would this world be free of evil? No, the next most evil act would still exist. You can iterate through this process and you can end up with a universe in which something slight and unremarkable in our world, like forgetting to say "hello" to someone you meet, would be held as an evil act with the intensity that on our world we’d give to the organizers of genocide.
It’s bound to be a major character. If it wasn’t out of his character I would almost say Bob. Lewie would be my top pick for saying this. I don’t think this is Glon, or any other that isn’t a magical creature or wizard type though. Except Fang, it could actually be Fang.
I agree that Bob wouldn’t say this, but Gren might. I’m thinking it’s one of the Black Mountain folks; they more than anyone have reason to resent anyone who dismisses all the lives Ranna has shattered as less important than some etherial Balance.
I don’t think it’s Lewie. Like Bob, Lewie just doesn’t get sufficiently worked up about questions of right and wrong to call out a goddess to her face. OTHER things can push each of their buttons, but philosophical debates don’t.
I’m hoping that whoever said that will go on to point out that the whole "balance" issue was never "good and evil," but "light and dark." You have summer and winter. Life and death. When everything is in balance, that is good. When things are unbalanced, that is evil.
As an example: Sun Tsu wrote of the Five Relationships, and one of the big ones was "master and servant." Or perhaps "employer and employee." An employee owes the employer hard work and loyal service… but the employer is expected to take care of the employee. If employees are going hungry, or getting sick and not being taken care of, or crying in the parking lot because the work environment is that bad… things are out of balance and that is evil.
So… no, I don’t buy that Ranna is in any way necessary. And if C’thier is going to peddle that crap, she’s not exactly acting in the best interests of the mortals either.
In my experience, deities rarely if ever act in the best interests of mortals. All throughout fiction and myth you encounter deities (even supposedly good aligned or positive ones) who are more concerned with their own interests than they are with the interests of mortals. Whether those interests are to gather more power, achieve a goal, or even just to continue existing, ultimately the value of mortal life pales in comparison in the eyes of most deities.
Not to say Ch’thier is like that (we haven’t seen enough of her in action to say one way or another) but truly self-sacrificing deities are few and very far between.
This dimly reminds me of the Black and White Guardians when they were in The Ten Doctors. Is Eccleston going to show up in the CARDIS to sort them out? lol
So who is interfering, Lewis?
I don’t know, but I’m glad someone is. It was bugging me too, to hear Ch’Their writing off all the suffering Ranna has caused as a harmless blip in the cosmic Balance…
On further reflection, I’m guessing it’s Glon. He certainly has the right, the motivation, and the chutzpah to say that.
My guess is Lolth.
My WAG (wild-assed guess) would be Arachne.
Your reply make me think
Could be that ?? is Arachne?
That was my first guess, and being the tricky fella Rich is, he’s know that.
Maybe Lewie will be re-balanced back into a Lich.
It’s Captain Fang, abandoning his poise as a nutter to reveal the keen intellect… BWA HA HA HA, I couldn’t keep a straight face any longer.
Heck, from that angle it could be Kurassa, thinking he finally has his opportunity to be the new god of all, his hunger for power was always greater than his wisdom. Which in turn triggers the trap, removing magic from the world.

Anna, Queen of Shallmar.
Ah yes, the concept of yin & yang.
I’m wondering if it’s ?.
Love Ranna’s expressions in last two panels and her admission in the 2nd lol
Mucat- I feel that way too, but maybe it’s just her way of getting the idea into Ranna’s head for once?
Just noticed that both Ranna and Ch’thier’s blanched… Makes me wonder even more!!
I’m betting on that unidentified character who claims Ranna created her & who released Ch’Thier
There a few who it could be. Glon and Lewis have the right attitude, but I don’t see them being up in the clouds when the were recently on the ground (and Lewis is probably still focussed on recent matters of the (acquisition of) flesh. Arachne next Monday would be awesome.
Ah, I see it now that you mention it. AND I mispelled name as Yalumo instead of Yakumo.
But, I’m still holding out for Arachne.
Some of us never stopped (holding out for Arachne) 😀
What a shockingly…neutral…speech?
The Tao of YAFGC.
Going aaallllll the way back to when we first became fond of a Beholder…
t!
It’s like listening to a leitmotif arise again, in the course of an epic symphony, isn’t it?
<3
Looks like it’s time for a paradigm shift.
Aaaargh – who’s speaking there? Love Ranna’s expressions throughout this.
Looking forward to Monday now 😛
I hope that’s Runt.
There seem to be three ways this can end.
Well I’m sure it sounded good when Ch’Thier rehearsed it in her head.
Finally, Fang shows his true face
Last minute interruption for the win!
Could be Lewie, could be ?, Glon…who knows?
A cliche, perhaps, but if there was ever a time for DUN-DUN-DUNNN!!!
I think it’s now.
All respect to Garfield and The Boomtown Rats, but bring on Monday!
I’m having my doubts about it being Lewie. Why would someone who was in pure joy moments before challenge the God that gifted it to them? Doesn’t even fit his character, which is normally, hard-done-by, not, ungrateful-soab.
I figured it out.
It’s Anna, Queen of Shallmar.
What I’m impressed with the most is that, just when it seemed the resolution is set, the end around the corner for this chapter, BK twists our expectations yet again. Amazing job 🙂
I just lost every speck of respect I ever had for Ch’Thier.
All that stuff about "good and evil cannot exist without each other"… does that apply LITERALLY to her and her sister? Because if so… it would explain why she doesn’t want to kill her. But it also means that you only need to successfully kill ONE of them…

Saint Augustine, it’s you?
I say its Mrs Bloodhand who spanks both their butts.
It’s bound to be a major character. If it wasn’t out of his character I would almost say Bob. Lewie would be my top pick for saying this. I don’t think this is Glon, or any other that isn’t a magical creature or wizard type though. Except Fang, it could actually be Fang.

Yet another perfect moment is ruined by a comment from the peanut-gallery.
I just want to day for the record, that wasn’t Me!!
Curious if the battle is still raging or has everyone stopped to watch what’s going on with the sisters?
I’ll take a wild ass guess that it’s the Phoenix.
Whoever it turns out to be, hopefully it stops the dysfunctional cycle that Ranna and Ch’thier have been stuck in.
I’m hoping that whoever said that will go on to point out that the whole "balance" issue was never "good and evil," but "light and dark." You have summer and winter. Life and death. When everything is in balance, that is good. When things are unbalanced, that is evil.

Hedging my bet on either Runt or Eric I
Yes, I could see it being Eric I, given his history.
Gonna go against the grain and guess Caudugan.
WHo ever you are brave off-panel soul, choose your next words with EXTREME care. YOu are within the smiting range of not one but two Goddesses.
