3360 The Dawn Of The Age Of The Elves
Yesterday I ran Al Qadim (AD&D2e Arabian Nights) and it was awesome. There was even a pair of dragons in a dungeon! (Well, they fought a couple of Vishaps in a lair). Here’s a pic I drew for my personal gallery in honour of the campaign. Enjoy!
-Rich BK Morris
EDIT: Note – I only drew the characters. The graphics (corner scroll, logo and bg map) are all part of the campaign packs.
Some of what passes for music these days fits the chaos model too.
Parents in 1955 would have said the exact same thing.
Actually, scratch that. Parents in EVERY age EVER.
"When Thog your age, banging rocks together ART. Kids these days just make NOISE."
You elves git off mah lawn!!! Yer acting like a hoard of orcs!!!
"aspects of life that had been unbearable during the Dragon’s riegn"….
I would suspect that sentient beings being used as snack-food could be at the top of the list.
How to really serve elvenkind
Is King I’ Aran also The One?
Also, all together now, "Leland, are you writing all this down?"
And do I see Lolth Demon Queen of Spiders? Well, in list of characters at least …
Yes, that is her next to Scorpi.
Though I would like to know what wass their ministries.
Well, Death and Power weren’t included in the other Minister’s portfolios…
You pick which of them got what
Now that you say it, I didn’t notice that.
Given that Lloth lead the rebellion (and per obsession with power) I guess she was Power leaving Scorpi with Death.
> Also, all together now, "Leland, are you writing all this down?"
That poor squid familiar is being put on the spot for ink-on-demand, in between frantic carpal tunnel massages of the man’s hand, I know it.
Inky KNEW he had a bad feeling about this!
I wonder if maybe one or even the both of them were adopted?
Ooh, did Falahn find an anthill? BEAUTIFUL example of the interplay of chaos and order…
Also, Rich, those D&D characters look like a lot of fun. I love the excitable halfling mirrored by the excitable little genie spirit thing.
Heheh, that’s my daughter’s character, a Gnome Sha’ir, and her little Gen familiar. And yeah, she just loves to blow stuff up.
She looks like she would be a blast to have around
"The gnome loves to blow stuff up, or the gen does?"
"Precisely."
The Gen mostly just fetches the spells and then watches the chaos while giggling and clapping her hands.
Naturally, the gnome never giggles or claps her hands after a spell. She comports herself with the calm dignity that befits a scholar of the arcane.
(I still love the mirrored body language from the two of them.)
I cast Red Bull and cotton candy on the gnome!!
""Spirit" looks the spitting image of Dewcup. Could she be an amnesiac ancient Elven goddess?
Could explain a few things… not sure *what* things 😛
There is a fractal model somewhere that shows how chaos is an inherent property of order for a long, long, long time and then order is re-established but in a much more complex and beautiful way. So that would mean that chaos is merely a transition within eternally unfolding order, albeit a long transition (like life of universe long).
The "Land of Fate" was always my favorite game world!
Seven provinces accounted for, so what are the other three?
Probably the king, Lolth and Scorpi. Would be interesting to know what Lolth’s and Scorpi’s original provinces were.
Joy and Friendship?
Lolth and Scorpi could be Death and Power.
Oh, the conversations Falahn could have with a Cambridge professor of my acquaintance, named Voss…
Heh, the Not-Aladdin looking character (with the scissors) looks… confused to be there 😀
And Princess not-Jasmine likes what she sees 😛
The "Princess not-Jasmine" (nice description, btw hehe) is an Assassin named Mara. The "Not-Aladdin" is a Half-Elf barber named Alim. And yeah, he’s often as baffled by his world. Big warrior guy is a Corsair named Kamal (Not-Sinbad, if you like), there’s an Orc Sorcerer named Najm and a Drow Desert-Rider named Mamoon. Rounding out the cast as I mentioned earlier is the little Gnome Sha’ir Nura, who has a Marida Gen (water genie) familiar named Mandy and a small, golden wind-up bird (which is unintentionally reminiscent of Bubo from "Clash of the Titans")
Mamoon and Mara have dinosaur pets….. yes, dinosaurs…. that they picked up in the Lost Oasis (not unlike YAFGC’s Lost Valley) a little black Microraptor (like Mike from YAFGC’s ‘Yet Another Fantasy Gamer Crossover’ chapter) and a large, fluffed-up Turkey-like Troodon that has declared itself Mamoon’s protector and guardian.
Oh, and the goose lays golden eggs once in a while.
Not a jitatan monkey-bird then?
Not a…. jitatan monkey-bird…. no. And what in the 50 hells is a jitatan monkey-bird?
That monkey thing, Niddler, from "Pirates of Dark Water"
Yeah, as NotRichard says: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/9a/00/11/9a00110f12ffd2b952849022e6b9100c.jpg
Don’t forget the not-Mother Goose.
I’m so happy you guys, I LOVE world building and lore!
Yay!
Concurring on the "yay," and also: delightful to see you here in the comments! Remember you most fondly from the forum days…
I found the description of music, order of patterns over the chaos of ambience.
Though the sound tech in me would also venture forth "The order of the Engineer over the Chaos of the musician"
I meant to say the first part, I found particularly succinct
Patterns of order found within patterns of chaos, just how nature works. But why it works that way, and not some other way, appears to be a result of nothing more than random chance, an unknown cause, and that, the true unpredictability that forms the laws of the known by unknown means, is the Secret of Chaos.
Ooh, that’s good, I should’ve kept that for myself!
As someone far wiser than me said, finding Order (and ‘patterns’) in Chaos is simply hardwired into human minds, and it’s why two (or more) people looking at the same Chaos will see different things (and why those ‘magic dot’ pictures are a load of monkey fungus! don’t get me started on the ‘ink splotch tests’!!)
"Oh, cool, a boat."
Bahahaha! Poor guy! (If this is actually a reference to mallrats) I feel for him- I can never see the boat either
Meant to watch that movie, never got around to it
Falahn, goddess of …science?!
Or at least, a goddess who is a scientist.
Who plays the goose?
(Geese are clearly too powerful for anything short of a PC class.)
Alas, it’s an NPC. That being said, thank you for reminding me that I’ve got an EXCELLENT NPC disturber-of-the-poop all set up for me.
The NPC also carries a whirling blades contraption that make a strong breeze, right?
A fully fledged character, of course. 😛
Every artistic medium has its rules/order, be it the colour wheel, time signatures and wave amplitudes, grammar and syntax, etc.
The point where this science and creativity/imagination/inspiration intersect is properly called Craft.
t!
Precisely. Message, meet language of expression…
So, at that point they were mortal elves who were tasked with researching different aspects of life, weren’t they?
Why storms? How is that an aspect of life? I mean, yeah, storms affect life, but so do millions af natural phenomena: frost, draught, light, insects, plants, minerals… etc… the list is infinite…
It’s contextual. You kinda had to be there two million years ago on that specific planet.
I wonder if I’Aran did not command A Flock of Seagulls.
Sorry for the reference to the 80s. I’ll see myself out.
