Ah! So there will be a skellington in this comic after all. Welcome, Kurassa: the job opening was waiting for you. Responsibilities include getting smashed apart for comic relief.
That’s Kurassa, by the way. It took me a bit to figure it out.
You mean "je veux être calife à la place du calife" in the original French I presume. Cheeky you, suggesting something already taken by another comic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iznogoud
Kurassa always specialized at uncovering lost artifacts and forbidden rituals …so it’s possible that he arranged in advance to become a lich when he died, cribbing the knowledge as he always does from the writings of someone far more talented than himself.
But I can also imagine that it was the unique manner of his death, rather than anything he himself had done, that left him in this state. Maybe Naomi’s magic sucked the life force from him without bothering to actually kill him in the process. (Which might have been Fatinah’s fate too, had Kassim not broken her connection in the nick of time.)
That’s Sir Catianus of Northgate and lover of Adwen the Cruel, you can see him being turned to stone in this comic during the battle. https://www.yafgc.net/comic/3345-troops-on-the-ground/
You do notice he is shattered into pieces, right?
Not sure if, even during the Age of Heroes, there was magic to reform something sliced into many pieces
Restoration would require a Wish spell (to restore the statues) followed by Stone to Flesh to reverse the petrification. If not for the magical dead zone, possibly worldwide, Eddie or the ex-lich could probably manage it.
would probably have to wait for the magic to recover first.
Well, lets say he was reconstructed perfectly and restored and is alive again. Or does the act of shattering him actually kill him regardless. These are the questions that need to be answered by Magical Science studies!
Most likely, was just thinking that deliberate could either be ‘in the heat of the battle’ (with the end result being the same as an accidental), or, deliberate revenge, either towards Catianus himself or Adwen
Again, just thinking too much (the voices keep telling me not to do that)
Forgot Lolth (even though it was just two pages ago), didn’t count Eric I as he simply had… completed his obligation? fulfilled his prophecy?
Not dismissing his loss, just not counting it as a fatality
Have we seen what happened to them yet?
Weren’t they brought back to life, through magic, rather than a prophecy?
They swore an oath to protect the Queen and her line, would be sad if they re-died before they found out about her and her descendants in the Goblin Lands
It’s been broken for me for a long time now. I’ve been struggling to correct it. I suspect it’s something to do with the site’s cache. I’ll keep at it. Thanks for the note.
I said it before. You have to admire someone who can be *THAT* Stubborn.
He even refused to give up his beard. I mean., Dayum.
And you know he’s already plotting WORLD DOMINATION BABY! No scratch that… he’s never stopped Plotting World Domination has he?
Step 1: Get Skin-Suit
Step 2: Lie, Cheat, Steal & Murder
Step 3: ???
Step 4: World Domination!

Well, the catchphrase "Curses!" is taken. He’d better come up with something else. How about "I want to be Caliph in the place of the Caliph"?
You mean "je veux être calife à la place du calife" in the original French I presume. Cheeky you, suggesting something already taken by another comic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iznogoud
I am just glad somebody recognised the phrase 🙂 Iznogoud is a distant but fond memory. Tres cher, vraiment.
I remember reading those books at high school, good memories 😀
Kurses!
I wonder how he managed to achieve Litchdom? Louie needed the active help of a Goddess to do it.

Also possible that he’s not a full lich. There’s other free-willed skeletal undead.
Excuse me (and sorry) but who is the woman turned stone and cracked that the other warriors are crying?
I don’t recognize her
PD: The moments brothers, sisters, brother-sister and other families always make me happy (at least it is happy yet)

Catianus! No!
Same upper right hand box too!
The pain of Adwen the cruel is endless.
First her Wyvern and now Catianus.
Thank you
I must admit I only realized that it is him because of Adwen mourning.
And I checked back to the fighting montage.
I wonder if he can be cured like Cadugan and Lucas.
You do notice he is shattered into pieces, right?
Not sure if, even during the Age of Heroes, there was magic to reform something sliced into many pieces
Did you just… ninja me?
Would say ‘great minds’, but that would just be insulting to you (comparing me to you)
And they had to use up a LOT of the worldsmagic to trap Rava
I suspect this commic is gonna start getting kinda steampunk
Awh, dammit! And goddesses are gone.
He’s already in pieces… also, this might require more magic than is currently available.
Restoration would require a Wish spell (to restore the statues) followed by Stone to Flesh to reverse the petrification. If not for the magical dead zone, possibly worldwide, Eddie or the ex-lich could probably manage it.
would probably have to wait for the magic to recover first.
It would take many uses but Mending could be used to repair the statue
A wish would eliminate the possibility of any pieces being missed, however, and could restore many statues at once.
Quick, someone find all seven dragon balls!
How many dragons were killed in this battle? Shouldn’t be *that* difficult to find just seven
NOTHING can kill a cockroach…
t!
Farewell Sir Catanius
He will be missed. 🙁
By many people, both in and out of the comic.
It’s something unpredictable
And in the end it’s right
I hope you had the time of your life
I wonder if he is actually dead or if he is stuck in a sort of stasis even in pieces.
Perhaps the manner of his death prevented his life force from leaving.
Lol, there’s a pun hidden in there. 😀
Well, lets say he was reconstructed perfectly and restored and is alive again. Or does the act of shattering him actually kill him regardless. These are the questions that need to be answered by Magical Science studies!
"There must always be a lich king,"
For some reason, this quote just popped up from my memory.
Not that I think Kurassa has any capacity for royalty in him…
Unless you count Kurassa as a ‘royal pain’?
nice 😀
So he was not only stoned, but even shattered as well… 🙁
Question is: deliberate or accidental smashering?
I don’t think that really matters anymore.
Most likely, was just thinking that deliberate could either be ‘in the heat of the battle’ (with the end result being the same as an accidental), or, deliberate revenge, either towards Catianus himself or Adwen
Again, just thinking too much (the voices keep telling me not to do that)
Is this the first confirmed fatality?
There was also Lolth. She was like a medieval laughing out loud. 😛
Don’t forget Eric I, too.
Forgot Lolth (even though it was just two pages ago), didn’t count Eric I as he simply had… completed his obligation? fulfilled his prophecy?
Not dismissing his loss, just not counting it as a fatality
Torvid Mak and his men, even more than Eric I, were running on borrowed time…but that time did end here.
Have we seen what happened to them yet?
Weren’t they brought back to life, through magic, rather than a prophecy?
They swore an oath to protect the Queen and her line, would be sad if they re-died before they found out about her and her descendants in the Goblin Lands
The good die young, the scum don’t die. 🙁
…Rich, the YAFGC title banner is broken for me. Anyone seeing it?
What title banner? (No, I am not seeing it either, in other words.)
I’m seeing a little icon of a broken image. Been like that since yesterday. It opens ok in a new tab though, so the image does exist.
It’s been broken for me for a long time now. I’ve been struggling to correct it. I suspect it’s something to do with the site’s cache. I’ll keep at it. Thanks for the note.
Looks like this caching issue has now spread to the Gravatars.

The server settings of a website can be an unintuitive quagmire of nightmarish proportions.
I’m amused he kept his facial hair despite losing his face. But at the same time, I have to admit it made him instantly recognizable!
It wasn’t actual facial hair, but a manifestation of his personality?
Then he should also have a penis coming out of his forehead.
There’s actually a Russian video of someone wishing exactly that upon a driver for a gratuitious "beep beep".
I said it before. You have to admire someone who can be *THAT* Stubborn.

Curses! A New Lich King arrives????
He ain’t no king, and probably not even a lich, just an animated sentient skellie
Maybe he made his bones into a horcrux before this battle.
Oh no… Catianus got broken in battle? 🙁
I really hoped they’d be able to un-stone him…
